Some cheeky bastard has been jetsetting around the globe on behalf of an old credit card of mine.
Yesterday I got a demand letter saying I was over the credit limit and had to pay immediatley. Hadnt used the card in over a year and hadnt had statements for longer.
Long story short someone had paid

£200 to virgin media
£2500 to thompson travel agents
£250 to ryanair
£50 to the london borough of merton (wtf is this shit?)
£20 to O2

and then someone paid £5 back on to the card!

Unsure how it happened as i cut all my cards up wel over a year ago, and all this started just this july.

ahh shit sorry to hear it Tris. I had something like this happen. As you've not used the card in a year, plus it's all probably online transactions you should be ok.

Gotta be careful nowadays, anyone can potentially get a card in your name, especially if you are rooming with them at uni!!

try and get it sorted asap, you should be OK though tbh Tris. My friend had her card abused and some bugger went and brought loads of stuff in Canada with it but they got it all back.

Sorry to hear about that Tris. Like others in this thread, I also had something similar happen to me, although in my case it was a £10k loan, which took a lot of sorting out.

When you speak to your credit card company, follow up every phone call with a letter. This is important as these people have a tendancy not to make notes on your account when they talk to you on the phone, and it also gives you an accurate record of what was said / agreed.

good idea if you want to commit fraud your self and be found out very easily.
