Morning.

Due to reformatting the PC, I've got the old sneaky Blaster virus (60 seconds til shutdown bollocks) again.

Well I run the Symantec tool to check for it tho and it says it cant find it, have installed fix from MS site and still I'm getting it.

IS there a more recent update or anything you can recommend? Pissing me off no end.

Ta in advance :)

turn off dcom rpc and tftp off next time you reinstall, before you connect to the net, that should keep you safe till you can patch.

and get a 50 euro router, this is exactly why i dont thrust software firewalls

Ive had exactly the same problem recently.

Ive run every tool known to man (Symantec, MS, McAffee) and non of them found it, yet I still get the 60sec to comply bullshit.

Last night, I found this article, did that (but didnt really find much) and then did this . Then installed Zone Alarm (or something similar) and thus far, havnt received the error again.

Make sure you turn off system restore before scanning, otherwise you may just drag the virus back in again.

A big reason why SP2 is going to be so vital for Windows XP this year.

I've just put RC1 of SP2 onto my laptop and am thus far impressed. I wouldn't trust any software solution to run on our gateway, that'll always be a hardware firewall, but I reckon the days for apps like ZoneAlarm are seriously numbered. Can't see Zonelabs and co getting an antitrust action against microsoft either, after all the criticism over their state of security in the last couple of years this is something they HAD to do.

If anyone wants to see the new MS firewall, let me know and I'll stick some screenies up.

Your not infected. Someone else's virused machine is exploiting your unpatched machine. Go install a firewall and start patching.
