Toying with the idea of buying a Blackberry.

Used to have one from work - was great as an always on, super fast internet & email gadget. But that was like 4 years ago, and Blackberry's have moved on. Only thing is the size of the screen is quite small.

Anyone got one ?

I would stay clear there are some win mo and nokias that have fast internet and the same keyboard layout if thats what you like. Blackberry tends to need a server or a paid for email solution to work.

The bold and curve are good, the bold is being superceded by the onyx in Autumn though, wait for that.

Don't buy the new touch-screen one. We had it as our company mobiles and it was so poor quality and buggy we swapped back to the previous version (which is excellent).

Depends what you want - if you want something functional for work or work and leisure combined Blackberrys are great. If you want something purely for leisure i'd say the I-phone has the current blackberry generation beat.

Didnt like the HTC snap at all from what i've seen.

What he said really, we use them for work and they are great. The interface and setup take a little getting used to, but I use mine all the time (work give me a new one every year). I would recommend the curve at the moment if you are not fussed on 3g, simply because the battery life is quite a lot better than the Bold.

I use a Blackbery Bold for work. For Enterprise Email services nothing comes close to them. Good also for messenger and Internet. As a phone, I absolutely hate all Blackberrys. The lookup for contacts is one of its worst features. Just about every other mobile phone does it better.

Actually in my opinion anything running a email sync program comes close the htc snap running direct push or the nokia e71 running mail for exchange both perform the same job just as well, only with the option of a lot more freedom on the rest of th phone.

I also work with them and have one in my draw at work that i leave there and use a different phone.

Agreed - stick with the Curve, which is a funky phone and has great features. The Storm (the touch screen one) has one fatal error - manufacturing. All the Storms come from one of two plants; one in Canada and one in Mexico. The Mexican ones are fine but the Canadian ones are shite with poorer reception. My Brother-in-Law has gone through 3 Storms and his provider literally said 'keep asking for replacements until you get a Mexican made one'. How shitty is that??

Have to agree though, Blackberrys are all a bit girly. :twak:

As a somewhat professional on the field, don't.

HTC have much better overall for example.

They ain't bad per say, but there are better.

Not a day goes by when someone isn't cursing the BBs at the office.

Don't believe the hype :D

How to put it in terms...

It's like a woman, right? If you happen to be lucky, you'll get one that has no problems at all, but if you're not, you'll be begging for a cheap ass nokia 3200 skank ho.

I can check tomorrow at work some of the better quality phones.

Many have both touch and keyboard and it works rather well.

The storm is not as bad as everyone is making out, but you will need to upgrade the OS to version 151 for best results. Would say hold off till october then the Odin model is being released.

Here's a lil info on HTC;

TyTn 2 is good, but it's getting a bit outdated.

If you get a windows mobiel, get a pro, the basic is crud in a crap package.

If money is no object(ish), get the 7373. Touch and keys and they've mostly removed the windows menu and put in their own, which works really nicely.

Blackberry, as said, isn't bad, but it's a bit...well...blackberry :D

If he does not want a Touch Phone HTC have 2 current options the Snap and the S740 if he wants to try a Touch screen then the Touch Pro 2 is the new heavy duty one and the Touch Diamond 2 is the middle ground.

All 4 run a customised HTC UI and Touch Flo on the Touch phones is really nice I have only used the other two for a few hours but both were easy to fly around. I would like to swap my blackberry for a Snap but i had to give it back.

The storm has less than half the battery life of the curve/bold, constantly locks up, slow to respond, signal generally poorer on the same network, touchscreens breaking/sticking etc...

No, nowhere near as reliable as the Bold i've had for nearly 7m now without so much as a hiccup /touch wood...:twak:

Well i have a storm and it works fine, battery to a stretch of 4 days, which is similar to your samples. like i said, you need to upgrade the operating system, most problems came with the first release.

If you want a BB wait for the storm 2 / Odin model to come out in a couple of months then decide.

The Nokia N97 is a pretty sweet email/net phone and it has a qwerty keyboard too.
