Finished it.

Disappointed, underwhelmed. Incredibly short game, plot was poor and saw it an absolute mile off. Combat was poor and uninvolving.

:(

Don't read if you haven't finished the game!

I love that so much time has gone into creating the narrative, I just wish it wasn't another generic
Save the girl who's actually your daughter
dull plot line. Take the same care over a better base narrative and it'd be much more satisfying.

It wasn't just a simple save the girl who is your daughter. It was a save the girl who is your daughter and save her from yourself and as it turned out by her killing you before you could become comstock (sp) Time is all at once, past present and future all at the same time, infinite realities based on actions, as per the dead people who come back to life. It would have been better if it had different drastically different endings (does it even have slightly different endings?)

I thought it was very good.

edit timer!

A lot of the story is implied rather than shown

The coin flipping near the start, I suppose in every reality they have visited it is the same result, to properly kill Comstock they have to do it a certain way to make sure it happens in every reality. Plus ofc all the underlying guilt suffered by your character and the final scene of redemption.

I guess part of my point is that those final scenes made no impact on me because of the entirely insipid
save the girl framework we started with. Other than revelations at the end, you are given no reason to care about DeWitt at all. He's just a blank mass. If there's no tie between the user and the character that stuff just doesn't really come into it.

I guess I'm just really disappointed. I had hoped for and heard about so much more. But the whole experience is brief and distant from the user. It never involved me once.

I can kind of see you point, which is what I meant about varied endings...I don't know if there are any.

The part where you choose a necklace for the girl, a bird or a cage for example, I don't know if that effects anything...I chose a bird

A little searching on the internet reveals:

No, no alternate endings. The choices you make are false choices; they affect tiny things in-game (e.g. sparing or killing Slate and then seeing him later or not) but they don't affect the game. This is generally understood to match the point of fate that runs through the game - no matter what DeWitt does, he ends up in the same place.

Which IMO makes it even more criminal that the user is not allowed to properly relate to DeWitt. If you're not shaping your own world, why the fuck should I care if I haven't been given reasons to?

Not played any of the Bioshock games, not sure why. Might have to check my local second hand store since the first game is ridiculously overpriced online.

The first one is often a few quid on Steam. Whenever there is a sale it's included, saw it for £3. something last time.

The gameplay was indeed unengaging. Intro was the only good part really.

Just finished this game, what an absolute cracker of a story. Some may think the plot is "meh" but frankly I enjoyed it a lot and the ending is probably one of the best I've seen in a game for a long, long time. In fact, the last game I can recall that gripped me and affected me so much was Max Payne.

Was talking to a mate the other day about scary games and despite being a big lad he just cannot play scary games, he couldn't finish either of the other two bioshock games but was enjoying this one...
This is me to be honest. I bought Bioshock about a year ago on sale, played it for half an hour and then thought "Fuck this". I've not ever been one for the Horror genre in general anyways, so the atmosphere in it just kills me.

Anyways the trailer for Infinite looked so good that I decided I'd go back and give it another go. So far I'm a few hours in and it's still actually miserable. I only ever play it for about 45mins to an hour at a time because my stomach is just in nots the whole time. I've been doing that for about a week now and I've only just got to Neptune's bounty.

The part with the Shotgun under the floodlight? Fucking hell.

Every big daddy fight so far (AKA 2 hah) is a fucking heart attack.

Have I even made a dent into the fucking thing?

I AM DETERMINED TO BEAT THIS FUCKER.

Infinite is terribly short. It took me 9 hours to complete, seeing pretty much everything and not rushing.

RAGE!! Found a copy of the first game for a fiver. PC version. Got to Julies office in Arcadia and bang, wall safe is empty. I've Googled it and NOTHING works. £5 wasted. You would've thought that the testers would find a game breaker like that.
