Personally, I have a heavy social life, and yeah I drink alot. But from my perspective I can tell everyone to fuck off if I want. I enjoy my time alone even though people tell I shouldn't be. But, i'd rather that I made my own mistakes because I am not hurting any one but myself. I've seen at first hand the detriments of quite alot of habits and seen how it wrecks families and other people's lives. It makes me sad that it happens, but in the same respect, I have a responsibility to myself that does impinge on anyone else. That does not make irresponsible, I just make a choice for me and nothing else. If things were not like this, I am certain I would not have answered in the way that I have. :)

Bloody well know what i meant by that.

You're now grasping at straws, just trying your best to make me look bad after you've noticed i was right.
.

if i knew what you meant i wouldnt be questioning it would i? because i would of knew what you meant.
what is it youre right about?

His definition is perfectly valid.

not according to experts.
i still cant fit in choosing to drink 2 units a day to the definition of being an alcoholic.

How many times do i have to say it tris-?

If you can't be without drink, nothing to do with choosing to drink, then you have a problem.

In other words, if you can't go a day without those 2 units, you're addicted.

It's not a choice if you can't do without.

Never said that you're an alcoholic, or even say that someone who chooses to drink is an alcoholic, i said if you can't go without alcohol for any amount of time.

Don't want a personal fight about it, 'cause i've not insulted you or called you anything.

The first post was a concerned query.

If you can't go a day without, it's addiction.

Christ, people aren't seriously disbuting this? :eek6:

I have 1 can of lager a night, when I get home from work. Crack it open, have a panatella and read the paper. I have done this for months. Am I addicted?

Tell you what, just to prove you are talking shite, I will stop tonight ok, I mean, if I was addicted like you say I am, I wont be able to stop will I.

That's exactly my point!

Christ almighty on a trampoline, where did i say "if you drink every day you're addicted"?

I quite clearly said, many many times, if you can't stop.

Have to admit to a fault, i did say on page 1 that if you drink daily you're an alcoholic. But that was meant towards more then a sip of red wine. Lack of definition on that post.

That's where the "if you can't stop that sipping" comes to play.

the UK is one of the very few places in the world i have been to where people go out with the intention of getting shit-faced so regularly :p
Take it from someone who doesn't drink the result isn't pretty to the sober eye

its all true i'd say its probably down to the examples you had as a child i.e. when i was a kid my father was always down the pub and coming home pissed as a fart sometimes he'd just flake out in the garden sometimes he'd come in and beat us all up, the mother used to get so drunk she actually threw up down my back when i was a little girl (totally ruining my Dr Watson coat tbh not amused) and throw tantrums or have music blasting (just to show everyone what a great time she was having) then after the divorce they both continued and went out and shagged everything in sight, twas tres disturbing waking up in the morning and going down to watch cartoons and finding young boys leaving her bedroom quickly and quietly so as to effectively escape. the older sister, again vast quantities of drink and sex and bragging about how fucking great everything was yay!!!

anyhoo when i grew up a bit i naturally thought this was how one was supposed to act, so i did, i got drunk (and i mean really drunk) and i shagged and i thought i was normal, didn;t realise that its not normal, its not good and it is dangerous. Anyhoo acting like them didn't help me fit in and when i moved away from them all and became my own person i saw how awful it actually was, i shant say i regretted it because although i wouldnt act that way if given the choice to relive it again i did learn from it just how bad my family were and just how bad alcohol makes people behave.

i drink a little now but only for enjoyment and its most certainly not every week (not even every month lol) its also not something i save for "special occasions" because i have had many christmas' etc ruined from people being drunk. i think the drinking culture in this country is terrible but its not new, the stuff i spoke about was all going on in the 80s + so its not just suddenly happened.

i really can't see the fun, because now i have seen the alternative, and i think thats what will change people from behaving in this way only when they see the alternative because until then they don't realise there is a problem.

Because the government has not figured out that legalising and taxing drugs will make them as much if not more than booze yet ;)
