As great as the books were i still thought the films were amazing in epic proportions so i dont see why Jackson can't deliver with the same quality again :)

I heard he is making two movies instead of one so he can have as much detail as possible, and work more towards a movie around the book instead of a movie based around areas of the book.

I thought some other guy was going to direct the hobbit? Maybe they listened to fans of LOTR that Jackson should do it, done great job on LOTR atleast.

I don't agree with making 2 movies of the Hobbit. 3 for LOTR, yes - understandably so. But The Hobbit is only a couple of hundred pages long, the plot's not exactly mind-bogglingly difficult to comprehend, particularly as its a childrens book.

One movie at 3 hours is plenty and enough. Tolkein wrote it as one single book.

Whats he gonna do - release part one in 2009, and part 2 in 2010 ? How crap would that be ? There's no sensible break - unlike the clearly delineated breaks in LOTR.

As Bollo said, "I have a bad feeling about this"

From Newline website: New Line Cinema : Publicity : Press Releases

He's not the director, but executive producer... tho I have no idea what the difference is!

An executive producer is involved in the creative & technical aspects of the production

A director is the main main. He visualizes the script, controlling a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of their vision.

Big difference.

You'd think Jackson wouldn't take his position as most Exec Prod's do, he's probably going to do a little more then the usual. Or try to anyway, he's got other films to make at the same time :(

To be honest, Executive Producer most often means lending your name to a production and collecting a big check - Tarantino f.ex. is the master of this approach. Its a very broad title that can mean almost anything if the person in question actually is involved in the production.

Oh and im in the nr 2 camp, more or less.
