Guys

In Novemeber I am hoping to take my girlfriend away for a weekend of biking. Friday to Sunday thing.

Now, Its specific, I would like a nice log cabin or something similar, hot tub etc, something a bit special.

However I would also like a decent weekend biking. I aint a massive fan of trial centres, however in Nov I am expecting it to be wet so they prob are the best bet.

Soooooo

Was thinking either Wales or Scotland,or I thought Kielder?

Any suggestions?

Kielder is very good but there are a lot of midges around if it isn't windy.

I went there in Oct last year, well Northumbria and it was a gorgeous place.

Would there be lots of midges round in Nov time?

Whats the riding like Tom? Technical wise and length (the route that is ;))

I'd say Scotland, but I'm biased. If you come to Glentress, I'd be happy to guide you around. The trails are well marked, but it isn't obvious how you can mix the different trails together, and there are some secret trails too.

If you wanted a log cabin though, you might struggle. They tend to be further north. There are some nice hotels in and around Peebles, though that isn't the same thing. The other places you would want to be based would be Dumfries, other side of the Borders, more chance of a log cabin maybe. Or you could go further north, Aviemore is nice. If you like midges. Peebles would be less midgey, being further south and east.

Cheers Will,

Ive done GT a few times, my fave trial centre if I am honest. Peebles is nice and a decent chilled out night out. However, too many nubbins for my liking at trial centres with knee pads and elbow pads on clown bikes and baggies with hydration packs packed too the rafters, yet they only bike 30k

FAGS!

Annnnnnnnd calm :)

If I cant do log cabin like, something biker friendly with something special for my lady :)

Depends which route you take. I took the red route from Castle Kielder. If you're not a regular cyclist you'll die going up, and die to death coming down.

Plenty of forest roads to run around on though.

If you can't stand the typical trail centre crowd, we can do the black. No one really rides it nowadays because it doesn't have as many jumps as the red. And its a decent length. Plenty of decent bike friendly places to stay, though I live too close to be able to recommend anything.

And I'll be away biking in the Alps until the 5th of September, so don't be too early. I'll be mega-fit when I get back. Or broken.

I cover approx 150m a week so you could say I am regular :) If you have done the Red at Dalby I can do that in 1:52h when I go midweek when there isnt anyone else there.

Sweet Will, I will deffo keep that in mind. Ive been upto GT with the MTB club a few times and we get the Red & black done in the day and the black I find is a better ride IMO.

Where you biking in the Alps?

Dalby Forest? sweet :)

GT would be awesome, but the GF may dislike you on the climbs :)
I'd almost invite you to come to Holland, where it's a lot flatter, and there's some fair old sweet forest to bike through. Nothing like Scotland mind, unless you go down way in the south towards the German border, which would coincide with your cabin plans a bit better perhaps.

Hmmmm may have to look into that TdC :)

the GF is quite a decent biker, not as good on the technical climbing but certainly fit.

We both did an 80k ride from Staveley a couple of weeks back taking in High Street and the surrounding areas. She certainly more than held her own :)

Were both planning doing TransWales next year :bazbeer:

Will, Ive been boarding in Les Arcs, should be mint, have a good one dude :)
