I have a friend who wants to work with bikes and he's looking for some sort of mechanic apprenticeship or something. I'm not really sure of details but I do know he's not having any luck in and around Birmingham.

One of the doormen at work owns a car garage but doesn't touch bikes with a bargepole and said that generally mechanics are taking on less and less apprentice types because they're not subsidised anymore or something?

Does anyone (hi Throd) have any sagely advice I can pass on to him? I know I'm being vague but this is really all I know about the situation. :(

Any help muchly appreciated chaps, ta.

Tell him to get involved with a racing team if he can. Check out the BSB website for information on teams.

Anything you need to know, just gimme a shout. Bear in mind qualifications in bike mechanics are the same as they are in any other subject, ie a waste of fucking time if you cant do the job. :)
Bikes sales are having a big decline at the moment, so tell him to be patient.
