so another charity thread but im not running a marathon, doing a sponsored walk or anything like that - no, sir.

i am rallying across south america over a 2 week period hoping to get some sponsorship for operation smile, a charity that offers reconstructive surgery to kids with cleft lips/palates.

i say rallying: the vehicle is actually a three wheel mototaxi - 125cc complete with shit suspension, steering and brakes. it WILL make it the distance though - approx 3500km from Lima to Asuncion (although we will probably break down regularly and often)....

My cousins did that the last 2 years. The first one, their old Chrysler 180 inherited from our grandpa managed to survive till Ulan Bator.
Last time tho, the authorities of Mongolia didnt let them enter the country (who knows why)

just thought you guys might like a quick update before i shoot off tomorrow evening:

the weekend just gone was full on panic. like an absolute tool, i made the cardinal sin of travelling - i lost my passport (with 4 days to go). after around 48 hours of a very mixed range of emotion (laughter at first, then frustration, then shit-myself-fear when i read that it could take 7 days to get a replacement, then actual-shit-myself-fear when the girl at the passport office confirmed this) i managed to secure a replacement.

meanwhile, in peru: honda - the suppliers of the bikes - decided to renege on its contract for some reason. apparently the organisers were working overtime to get some replacements. we will now be powering along on either a 125cc/150cc (depending on waht they have available) Lifan Trooper II. nah, havent heard of Lifan either but word is that its spanish for 'breaks down more than a Honda'. that little hiccup has also meant a 3 day delay.

oh well! apparently theres an Oktoberfest boozing festival in the launch town and a few more days of drinking before the actual journey! joys.

so much good luck before the trip has even started can only bode well!

i got back last week (back to work the next day ;() and have uploaded a few shots onto facebook. my buddy is still out there, at last update, had nearly destroyed the thing on the MOST DANGEROUS ROAD IN TEH WORLD and was on teh way to saaaaf bolivia (gold mines, salt flats).

hopefully you can see these photos, else ill try get them on flickr or something.
