Long post, don't bother reading if you don't give a shit what I have to say / can't be arsed. It's not really very interesting.

I get panic and anxeity attacks a lot, sometimes for no apparent reason. Not much fun really. I've said before I was on meds (fluoxatine) for about a year and they did absolutely nothing and I eventually came off then a couple of months ago. I made the mistake of suddenly stopping taking them so I suffered withdrawl badly for about a month but since that cooled off I've been much happier really. I'm still a miserable fucknut who loses his temper far too quickly but in some weird way I feel better without the meds. I subscribe to the 'meds do fuck all' theory. The only thing that's got my life back on track is a youth project I'm on and my youth mentor/social worker type person. CBT and meds for over a year did nothing.

I've known two or three people who have taken paroxatine in the past and all have said they've had bad experiences on it and were sick as dog after they came off it. It's supposedly quite addictive - a quality fluoxatine is supposed to lack - and as such many people suffer from withdrawl after they've stopped taking it. I could never take any medication other than liquid fluoxatine due to the fact I can't swallow pills and fluoxatine is the only anti-depressant (of the SSRI family at least) that comes in a liquid form. One of the people I know who took paroxatine was my ex and she's been on all forms of medication and was generally a hugely fucked up person anyway, which may have contributed to the fact paroxatine did nothing for her. I see that a couple of you seem to think paroxatine did wonders for you but I believe that with taking the meds comes a self-belief and an ability to sort your life out, if you're mentally willing to do things to help yourself then you're much more likely to do so. Anti-depressants give you this mental edge, whether or not the medication actually works or not. Part of the problem with my ex was the fact she was perfectly content wallowing in depression, so she never bothered to try and help herself. Just attempted suicide multiple times.

I've got some literature on how to cope with panic/anxeity attacks, mainly to do with various breathing and muscle tensing techniques which some people find very useful. If anybody wants it let me know and I'll type up the relevant bits.

The thing is xane, if you know its all in your head, for me there is no longer a problem. As soon as i said to myself, "ahh this isnt real" its gone, no more problem.
Ive made this point on here before, and its only my opinion, but as soon as you start taking drugs for something are you not makeing the problem worse ?

It's good that you're able to think like that because many people can't, and like xane said some are just unable to. I realise it's your opinion and you're entitled to it but personally I feel you're just totally belittling people who suffer from depression.

But coming off them is a nightmare, I got pretty bad depression then. I think the mistake that the doctor made with me was to slowly reduce the dosage, rather than just cut them out.

Actually afaik you're supposed to come off them gradually, I know cutting out my meds suddenly fucked me up entirely anyway. Might be different for what you were taking though.

I work in IT in the Finance/Banking industry, the doctor told me probably half of them are on Prozac or similar anyway, it was reassuring to know that as a nutcase you are not alone.

I worked in IT in Financial Services when I was put on SSRIs as well. Funnily enough, since leaving the industry, I've not had any recurrences.

Welcome to the club Tremor. At least now you'll have something to write on all those pesky medical reports.

You'd be amazed how confused doctors seem to get when you tell them you are a cannabis user. Asking me how many ounces I smoked a day and stuff like that.

Let alone the confusion with the piercing when they took me into surgery.;)

We don't let Tremor take his clothes off at the doctors. The bruising leads to too many questions...

Friend of mine started taking them due to anxiety attacks.

Well, close friend...

She changed - became really zoned out all the time, was very weird - not zoned like stoned or anything, just... like she couldn't care about anything... which was very weird, as she is the most emotional person I know.

She stopped taking them and though she gets anxious, depressed, etc., still I for one am glad to have 'her' back and not the weird zombie.

First of all cheers Xane and mank.

After reading Xanes problems I feel a bit silly comparing mine to his, I truly hope all is well in Camaland now matey.

I have took the first pill(this morning) and I kinda feel no different, I still got the rages when I was driving. I feel a bit tingley and slightly dizzy now. I am sure I have never given a fuck about stuff, but evidently I must do. As you may or may not know I have had manic depression but this is different.

Throddy is spot on about the mental thing IF you are of that nature, I went to the docs because I couldnt breathe and I had chest pains, after being told all is fine in that area I could breathe again with no problem.

Thanks for all your input guys, it certainly has helped, I mean that!!
