Question Best steak ever?

A group of us went out into London on Saturday night for a bite to eat and then onto a Gentleman's Club.

I ordered a 300g fillet steak medium with a peppercorn sauce and I have to say it was the best steak I have ever eaten in my life. The meat is that easy to cut the restaurant does not use steak knives but just ordinary knives.

Atmosphere was good, decor was fantastic, lots of m00s everywhere. Great place.

Anyone else been to one? Is there a better steak?

Hmm, i guess that needs a definition of a good steak. Since, i like a bit of chewy "need a chaisaw" to cut in my steak.

Then again, a 300g knifecut steak sounds delish too.

I made a steak with chicken kiev style once, have to make one again to see if ti was THAT good, but the best one i've had at a "restaurant" was off a beaten path, in a dingy drink hole where only gruntled drunk men go.

Sounds corny as f*ck but it was!

I think they had their own cow killed in the back though...

That was John Steinbrecher's (remember him?) favourite restaurant in London. Said it was the only decent place to get a steak. Personally I've not had a better steak in the UK (or Europe), but I've had better in Argentina (so much that I got sick of it eventually), the US (a place in Philadelphia that I forget the name of) and strangely Thailand, where I was taken to an extremely expensive Japanese restaurant and had Kobe beef, which is probably the best steak I've ever had.

Where I live there's a huge big 4 star hotel, and within it there's a Steakhouse. I used to work there, and when I did - the steaks were goooood. However, the staff were being treated like shit, so after a few too many pints with the landlord of the local pub, the chefs decided to tell the hotel to get to fuck and start their own place in the local.

Absolutley brilliant! Steaks are AWESOME and reasonably priced. Lovely big bits of proper beef - none of this stringy crap. They've just changed the small members lounge into a restaurant if you want to eat it away from the pub atmosphere, and it's just as good.

Top notch - and I agree Deebs, nothing like a good steak.

there is a gaucho's in richmond. I took my dad there for his birthday. I had a plain burger and thought I had died and gone to heaven.....until I tasted my dad's steak and realised that my burger was merely cloud 8, his steak was cloud 9. Like you said Deebs, unbelievably tender, very delicious, a little on the pricey side, but I wouldn't ever hesitate to suggest it to someone for a special occasion. I also took james for valentines day....his sense of taste and smell is very poor but even he was blown away by the meat! I also really like the oil type condiment they give you at the start of the meal with bread....thats seriously scrummy too!

Just to add as well, in response to gaff....never had Kobe beef, but I have had Wagyu beef....which is supposed to be the most expensive around. Its sliced very thin and griddled in front of you very quickly. Its delicious and very tender, but not as flavoursome as the steak I have had at gauchos. Apparently, Wagyu coes are hand fed guinness and freshly cut grass by virgins all day....and get a massage morning and evening....and I shit you not!

Always on the look out for good steak, strangly enough my Mum invited me round the other week cause she bought some Steak from the local farm shop and it was gorgous so much more taste than tesco's.

BTW whats 300g's in ounces?

I don't see how a raw steak can be eaten without steak knives. But if it's well done it can be good as well , but personally i prefer medium-rare to rare (unless I'm mistaken what the definition of steak is!)

In Sweden we have a place called Texas Longhorn where you can order them in 200gr, 300gr, 400gr, 500gr or 1000gr. You won't leave hungry at least

I went to the Gaucho's near Canary Wharf for my birthday recently. It was very nice however Cafe de Paris is the best steak restaurant I have eaten at.

Yeh I vaguely remember John. Not heard of Kobe beef so will do a little bit of investigation and see where I can get to sample it.

Ooh that is interesting to know that there is one in Richmond as I will definitely going back there to have more.

Yes, but it was over a year ago, maybe 2. Looking at the menu on the site it's bigger now, a sharing dish or something. When I had it it was around 0.6 kilos of meat. Very nice though, looks like a nice main to share!

If you're a fan of churros don't get it there, they serve the latin american version, which is more like doughnuts. Wahaca is very good for them though, and very good mexican food.

Like gaffer the best steak I have ever had was Kobe beef, and that was in Vegas.

Kobe beef is great deebs, those crazy japs, they give cows beer and massages. Makes for very good meat.

there's a pretty decent Gauchos near where Yoni lives, but the best I have yet experienced was in the The Meat & Wine Co. - Steaks you'll leave home for... in Darling Harbor, Sydney.

Best steak i've ever had is at a pub called the Blacksmiths Arms in Swainby. They're quite well known for their Steak on the Stone where the steak is cooked in front of you on a hot rock.

"The age old method of cooking on hot rocks was an aboriginal practice in Australia for centuries before it became popular in Europe in the early 1900s.

The stones are heated in 750°F ovens and then brought to the table where they retain the power to cook for 30-40 minutes.

As the rocks are smooth, no oil or butter is needed so the taste is pure and natural."

It's great because less juices escape from the meat, and juicier = tastier in my experience. Try it next time you're 'Up Norf'

I had one of those in Derbyshire recently, it was ok but I think I left it on the rock too often, it got over cooked. Bit of a gimmick really but it was different anyway.

I imagine it was a 12 ounce steak, though, after all we live in England Dys you dirty saffer

I'd say a good lamb roast is the best ever. Though I once had a Pata Negra roast which was awesome.
