"niggarap" is the term for that curious brand of rap that tries to be both commercial and hardcore at the same time. They're badass gangstas, gonna pop a cap in yo' ass... but they perform on music shows, star in films, etc. For examples, see DMX, Redman, Tupac, etc, oh and the king of fags, P. Diddy (or whatever the hell he's calling himself nowadays). As their songs are liberally peppered with them referring to each other as "niggaz" I don't think you can claim it's derogatory can you. "Niggerap" would be derogatory.
