John Woo made MI 1/2?

Tom Cruise is the producer or executive producer in most of his films.

/edit: That is what you're talking about, right??

win tbh, the fight sequences were brilliant in Equilibrium

I love that film, the start knocks your socks off and the clinical way he takes out that patrol (fluffy puppy niceness!!) is both amazing and hilarious at the same time.

It's mad what you can do with a decent director, actors and idea, even on a limited budget.

Just to make sure there's no confusions, John Woo had absolutely nothing to do with the first Mission Impossible, which is why it was good. He directed MI2. It was shit.

A great shootout that hasn't been mentioned is the dockyard scene in Get Carter. It's only between Carter and about 3 guys, but it's great because it's so realistic. The characters are really static, there's no rolling around or somersaults or flashes as bullets hit things, but it's still really tense and exciting.

Also seconding the lobby scene in the Matrix.

As for fight scenes, I just love Jackie Chan's. He has this great facial expression that makes it look like he hasn't got a clue what he's doing most of the time.

its not the most action packed fight ever, nor probably the coolest, but I've always had a soft spot for Dread Pirate Roberts vs Inigo Montoya in the Princess Bride

:D

I still don't understand how John Woo has gotten so popular - he's so hopelessly shit. How he's allowed to continue to put his trademark dove in EVERY film he makes I don't know, and of course the rediculous over use of slow motion.

I agree. Its bloody annoying to see people knock MI1, when it was one of the best examples of Mr DePalma's ability to dish out dollops of suspense. The script was clever, intelligent, interesting, and quite difficult to guess the outcome. I loved the scene where Cruise puts on those glasses, and reveals Jon Voight's betrayal. Excellent stuff.

Contrast that with MI2, which does away with half-believeable stunts and drama, and offers up the usual cack-handed double-pistol gun fights, stupidly crap bike stunts, and utterly fucking shite doves flying across the frame in front of our 'hero'. So disappointing. I hope they get someone decent to direct MI3 if it happens. Make it difficult for the brain-dead to watch.

Joe Carnahan

He's not done much, I've only heard of Narc and I've not seen that. Been told it's good though.

Infact, I think I'll watch it again now.
