Best live track/performance

We've already discussed best gig so let's have best live song, be it from an album, b-side or a gig you were at.

I'd choose two.

1. Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark at Brixton acadamy last march, humming along with the rest of the crowd to THAT bit was an absolutley amazing experience and made the post car-crash mad dash the rest of the way all worth it.

2. Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy Name at Rock in Rio. Can't say as I was lucky enough to be there for this one but still, everything about it is perfect, even Janick's trainwreck-of-notes solo comes of sounding decent. The 30 second note Bruce holds at the end of it has to be heard to be believed and the singing overall is astounding. The definitive performance of the greatest metal song ever written.

aye. from what i've heard.

1. Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark: (see above)

2. Radiohead - That one where he makes up the piano tune on stage: Thrilling and really innovative. I like.

  • The Smiths - Queen Is Dead off the live album Rank. The drum intro is especially good.
  • The Cure - A Forest. Extended live version at the NEC, Birmingham. Probably one of the best song ever given a 12 minute running in the mid-80's. Oodles!
  • Manics - Motorcycle Emptiness at the NEC, Birmingham last month. I was there :)

Neil Hannon & Yan Tierson - Life on mars

neil has a flawless voice in this song.

Counting Crows (the whole of VH1 Storytellers/MTV things)
August & everything after(album) was pretty tuneless, but still had the sweet lyrics, when they did VH1 they'd re-wrote almost all the music off August...and it sounds superb.
I think counting crows are better live than they are on albums

Orbital - Earth Is burning (impact?)

Faithless - just beneath my skin

Underworld - Rez

all these, rocking electronica when seen live are just fucking mind blowing.

Radiohead- I Might be wrong (live recordings)

I'm with Mank on The Cure, 12 minutes of Forest action = sex

Tool live were really good, if a tad disturbing. Although best performance would prolly be Idlewild's first London gig, I went down after Lamacq had suggested it would be a good thing on the evening session, and it was bloody brilliant.
