Thank you come again.

Only if the opinion is about something that is quantifiably right or wrong, and not down to a value judgement.

Once again, do try harder

ahhhh scooba you amuse me greatly. You try and act superior with your "Do try harder" but unfortunately you display less intelligence than the common piece of belly button fluff.

There are several facts of life. You are born, you die, and Gladiator is a fantastic piece of film-making. These cannot be argued with. Now kindly hush child.

Actually, just saw Gladiator for the first time there on video and I have to say I thought it was a disappointment. I enjoyed it and thought it was good, but I expected more.

Also just saw Ghost Dog with Forest Whittaker, and curiously, probably because I wasnt expecting anything, thought it was excellent!!!

Just watched Gladiator again and I have to say that your a fuckwit scooba :] Also saw Unbreakable earlier today and it was ok, has a twist ending too, mind u it's done by the same people who did the 6th sense so that was to be expected really.

Gladiator still 0wns all this year though.

I thought Fight Club was 1999. Anyway, that's my pick if you're going to count the DVD.

I tell you what tho, the book was a let down. Normally when a film is based on a book, large amounts of detail have to be cut out to make the film manageable. Somehow, and this is the only time I've seen this, they managed to get every element of the book into the film, and make it better/just as good. (Except the ending which is much better in the book.)

My point is, don't read the book after you've seen the film cos you'll be disappointed. If you haven't seen it, read the book first and marvel at how well the film is done.

er Reactor,

If the ending in the book was much better than the film, would this not be reason enuff to read it?

Also saw Unbreakable yesterday, was pretty good, if you enjoyed 6th sense you would probably enjoy this also although its not as good. The twist at the end is not as fundamental to the film as the one in 6th sense was. Also saw American Psycho on vid the other day, and thought it reeked of the sweat of a baboons bollox.

Well i am waiting for lots of nasty replies to this message. I think the best film of 2000 was 'The Beach', yes i am a Leonardo Dicaprio fan but i thougth it was great. But i thought that the book was a lot better though.

Ask anyone who saw The Beach what they thought of it and thats exactly what they say: "The book was better".

My thoughts:

Being John Malkovich
Oh Brother where Art Thou
Magnolia
Toy Story 2

All class films not dependent on budget breaking special effects. Not really a good year for films I reckon.

American Beauty. Was that 2000 ? If so it gets my vote. Then Fight Club (same proviso.)

Gladiator was just a smidgin too long imo. Some great bits in it tho.

Fight club and American Beauty were both 1999. Still good films tho, even if Fight Club didnt live up to the hype.

"I keep my mind closed, that way there's less chance of losing it"

shame you didn't think up that quote until AFTER you had lost your mind.

Fool

How did he think up the quote if he didn't have a mind?

Fool.

American Beauty was by far and away the best film of the year, and one of the best ever made. Yep, Gladiator was good, damn good in fact. The only drawback is the plot. Albeit it's a good and involving plot, it's a little basic. That said though, spectacular film.

I've not seen American Psycho myself, but I am currently reading the book from '91, and it's fucking great. I've heard stuff before about it being a brilliant read and a fuck up interpretation onto film.

I concur - dont see the film if you read the book first - its a pile of shite that some people will tell you is so deep, you probably didnt get it - I say bollox to that. Its like lots of books that really try to get to the core of a characters mind - they dont transfer very well to film.
