Difficult choice, for me it was between Keane, Zola and King Eric :)

I have went for Cantona, he was everything a footballer should be.

Keane without a doubt, while some have come close, none have had the inspiration and success he has.

All the players with the exception of AJ who was a joke deserve to be in there.

if you say so. there are still a hell of a lot of players not being recognised in your poll that did a hell of a lot for the premiership as it is now - sure, in 5 years time we'll more than likely look back on JT and say he was one of the greatest centre backs of a generation. but not yet.

where are players like paul scholes, gary neville, gary speed, robbie fowler - the list could go on - who have done it for years and years?

yes, di canio was a great spectacle, but he has played a lot in italy also.

yes, a lot of people have the misconception that roy keane was actually a good player, but he was in reality a loud mouthed, arrogant, 'tough guy', who covered up his misgivings as a player by running his mouth and winding people up. he was a great leader on the field, little more.

The poll is "who is the best Premiership footballer" not "whos been at the top level for the longest. Gary Speed??? Di Canio was top drawer and an absolute talent. To say Roy Keane wasnt a good player? I cant really take you seriously tbh. The master class he gave against Juve was the best display ive ever seen from a footballer (with Cantona's against Liverpool in the FA cup final of 1996 a close second) As Alex Ferguson said "Keane is without doubt the best player ive seen in my 20 years of management.

I could of put Paul Scholes in there as in my eyes, he still is top drawer.

This is about premiership not Ireland, Keane is the best ever premiership footballer to date, not just because of success but also the fact he was rated as the worlds best midfielder in his prime.

As for best team, ill see your season unbeaten season and raise you a Title, Fa Cup and European Cup in one season. :)

Being a liverpool fan myself, I would have to say ......Zola! Even if he did play for Chelsea, he was amazing on the pitch and was one of the few players who actually seemed like he was enjoying himself.

He is actually a very nice guy also as you say. When Chelsea played Grimsby in the cup, they stayed at the Forest Pines Hotel just up the road from me. My mate is a chef there, he and a few others came down and spent a full afternoon with the fans. There are loads of pictures in our local of him with the locals (many Chelsea fans).

Top player also.

I have to admit i woud not even have though of putting Keane in this as im not a Man U fan and i do not see anything about him i do not rate him. Cantona is undeniable but i suppose i have never seen anyhting but the dirty side of Keane to rate him, im not going to say he was rubbish just that i have not seen anything to make me rate him.

Well thats the thing with alot of people, strikers and creative people tend to be recognized more purely because of the "wow" element. Keane wasn't just a hard tackling player, he was also a great tackler (Cloughie said he could be the worlds best centre half if he wanted), his motivation to win was unparalleled, his passing game was great, he rarely gave the ball away and could distribute it long if need be but his workrate and engine were unreal. He could literally run from area to area all game, he was a complete midfielder, which is why in his prime he was recognized as the worlds best midfielder.

Liverpool fan here. I always had a soft spot for Le Tiss, amazing player!

Guess I'd go for Cantona though, followed by zola.

Im a Man Utd supporter and i disagree with this thread. Man Utd usually has the most fans so most of us will vote keane or cantona regardless.

there are exceptions, but most people pick the players from there club

Didn't see Cantona or Di Canio play live, have seen all the rest. Has to be between Zola , Henry or Keane - given that you haven't included Dion Dublin in there :D Plumped for Zola just about, because of his attitude on the pitch.
