Whether it was on a Sinclair, Commodore, BBC, Acorn, Atari, Oric, Dragon, MSX, Amstrad, Sharp, Jupiter, Tandy or Mattel 8-bit computer what was that computer's best game?

ZX 81: Mazogs
ZX Spectrum: Jet Set Willy (after attic bug was fixed anyway)
C64: Wizball
Oric Atmos: Scuba Dive
BBC Micro Model B: Elite (no brainer imho)

Chaos was my 2nd fave (good old Julian Gollop)

found this that looks very interesting

Spyhunter on the C64 is a classic too.

If you're going to mention 16 bit computers then I'll add

Atari ST: Oids
Commodore Amiga: Cannon Fodder

I preferred Elite on the Spectrum, to be honest. Seem to recall there were a few extra quests, and I preferred the explosions.

Fave Spectrum game would be between that and Doomdarks Revenge, though.

hmm i'm sure the bbc one had as many as the speccy one. a mate had it for the electron and lacked a lot of the missions.

doomdark's revenge is a classic as is lords of midnight. Met Mike Singleton, their creator once (he's a local lad) and he was a very nice chap.

Elite and Frag on BBC were both great games
Spectrum - Jet Set Willy
Atari ST - Defender / Robotron
Comodore Vic/64 - Gridrunner and other Llamasoft games coz I got them free :) Mate who lived in the village wrote them (Jeff Minter- crazy hippy guy who loved Llamas)

Loved Frak! on the BBC. Preferred Yak's Llamatron to Robotron on ST and loved Super Gridrunner too, and there also was a rather ace port of speccy game Chaos for it too. Loved Yak's games on the C64 and Vic 20 too.

Another speccy game I just remembered is Transversion. Think there's a PC remake of it somewhere too.

loved the tune for wizardry (which was also used for Fairlight on the Zx Spectrum). 3d maze was great (that chunky t-rex was scary!). hobbit was a good game too - remember that i got it in a big box with the book).

Paradroid by Andrew Braybrook (who also wrote Uridium, Gribbly's Day Out, Morpheus and did the C64 port of Rainbow Islands)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradroid

Ace game as was the 3d speccy conversion called Quazatron - never played the sequel to that called Magnetron which was also available for C64 though
