So me and my wife are considering moving to belgium (she's from there originally) and I was wondering if anyone could give insight into belgian Internet Service Providers? We'll most likely be living in the dutch part around Dendermonde area what sort of net can you get over there? whats the useage limits and all that jazz?

Haha really around Dendermonde, that is like 10 km from where i live (Aalst). Perhaps we should do a meet & greet.

Anyway, in Belgium the Internet Landscape is fucked due to download limits and capped upload speeds. But it is improving. There are 2 types of internet that you can get:

1. Broadband via cable

The broadband via coax cable has the fastest internet if you are willing to pay. The provider here is Telenet. More info: Het snelste internet, ook voor zware bestanden (if you need translation from dutch to english, feel free to ask) Please keep in mind that you can get some discounts by buying shakes meaning digital television / telephone and internet all from Telenet. Also,

2. Broadband via a/vDSL

The main supplier for a/vDSL lines in Belgium is Belgacom. They offer the internet at a bit cheaper rates but not that much different with Telenet. They also got shakes where they offer digital tv, telephone and internet in the same subscriptions which is cheaper.
you can find more info here: Internet Intense - Belgacom - Belgacom

There are other suppliers for internet but if you are new to the landscape in Belgium you will need Telephone/television/Internet and it's always an advantage if one can provide all three against a good price. Also, for a/vDSL you will need a telephone line anyway before you can activate from another supplier. If I was you I would go for Belgacom or Telenet. And perhaps in 1 year switch to another supplier.

You are not going to like it...
The biggest 2 are called Skynet (really!! not a joke) and Telenet

Basic offer for Skynet/Belgacom (DSL)
Internet Comfort : 12mbps/1mbps - 8GB/month - €32.50
Internet Favorite : 20mbps/1.5mbps - 75GB/month - €42.90
Internet Intense : 20mbps/2mbps - Unlimited traffic - €56

Telenet (Cable)
ComfortNet : 15mbps/512kbps - 15GB/month - €30.64
ExpressNet : 30mbps/1.25mbps - 30GB/month - €42.91
TurboNet : 30mbps/1.25mbps - 60GB/month - €61.32
FiberNet : 50mbps/2.5mbps - unlimited traffic - €69
FiberNet100 = 100mbps/5mbps - unlimited traffic - €99

You have other cheaper providers like Dommel that offer 24mbps/3mbps + unlimited traffic for €18, but as far as I know they aren't available in Dendermonde yet.
Don't know what kind of job you do, but most IT companies that reimburse your ISP costs only do so for Skynet/Telenet (keep that in mind before you order)

Edit : and what Preatoria said : get the combo packs for internet/tv/phone.
Small note though : if you live in an area that is not yet equiped for VDSL2 don't get Belgacom TV. SD tv content via ADSL2 is of bad quality. In that case go for Telenet....

are the belgian monthly limits around the clock? like in the uk you get things like:

30gig per month peak use

300gig off peak

or is it just 30gig per month peak and offpeak?

I don't know about isp's there but I heard they evict you from the country if you go on any dutch sites or speak with with dutch people...or do anything that could be conidered 'dutch' so fgs don't offer to go halves on any food bills or you'll be out on your arse.

ah then i'd prob go with Fibernet 50mb unlimited for 69 euro :) wife is looking at dommel now she put her parents phone number in from dendermonde and apparently it is available for that area for 17.99 per month for the first 6 months then after that its 34 euro per month which is also tempting, gonna dig around for some reviews about dommel tho just incase they arent that good.

If you go for fibrenet50 you might want to get the Fibrenet50 shake.
That's the fibrenet50 internet package + HD TV + phone (free european calls from 16h till 8h) for €89.90

Sounds like a good deal.

When it comes to ISP's, Belgium is prolly the worse country to move too. The choice in beer makes up for it though.
