Just announced on radio, comments?

Personally I'm happy. The difference in Englands play after he limped off was a massive improvement. That in no way should detract from from his past achievements. A great player and still argueably one of the best and most accurate crossers of the ball in Europe.

Who will replace him as captain?

Really dignified exit from Becks at the press conference - deserved the applause he got from the press.

Only one man for captain now - Gerrard.

Gotta be Gerrard. By far the best midfielder in the world.

Gerrard or Terry. Both do a great job at domestic level. Shame for Becks though, i know he's past his best but he did do a good job as captain.

True, everyone knocks Beckham but every time he pulled on that shirt, he played his heart out for his country, something Bobby Moore would have been proud of :)

beckham was and is a great player.. but never a great camptain.. only reason he was given camptains spot coz he kissed sven a bit.. he is quiting as captain now because he knows steve mclaren will drop him as captain and he doesent wanna look like a mug.

PS. has victoria beckham had a boob job resently.. they look very rounded?

Think becks is past his best and saw him leaving after the world cup for a while now.

He did despite some critism do a fantastic job as captain tho.

Next captain has to be Gerrard or Terry imo.

Beckham was never the same after that scottish prick flogged him to Madrid. But can you blame Beckham tbh. He was playing for the only club he wanted to play for in the world (and playing out of his skin week in week out) then suddeny finds he is no longer wanted.

Gratz on most clueless post so far.

I think he would of been replaced as captain for the next tournament but not because he hasn't done a fantastic job in the time he's been there.

Hmm, its usual for a new manager to pick a new captain anyway

Unless its someone special, like Radebe was at Leeds, every manager since Oleary made him captain :)

:( didn't see the press confrence but bet it was emotional. A great player, and a good captain. Hope steve picks him for his next team, not sure if he'll be in the starting lineup though. >< didn't even realise he was 31..
A team without david beckham in is just not the same:england:

I have always liked Beckham and could never understand the criticism he got.

He is a true honest footballer, nothing more nothing less. They say he is dumb? so what, he is playing football, not trying to be a scientist. He has never pretended to be clever or anything more then a man thats good at football, and if he does his job I don't care if he can do his abc's let alone win mastermind.
And for all his criticism he is still a perfect model father, loving husband and the kind of footballer you do want your kids to have as a role model.

And as said already, no one can cross a ball or score from a free kick as good as beckham, and as seen in the past he is a good captain, for what little a captain actually does on the pitch he was always the first to comfort or console his team mates and try to cheer them up.

The fault of englands team lays solely with one man, and we all know who that is, and it sure as hell is not beckham

terry or gerrard, they have the experience of captaining top teams, and gerrard has had 2 close shaves where his presence pushed his team ahead to win (FA cup v West Ham and CL v AC ;) )

but terry is a legend >.<

I have to admit, he is past his best :(

Id like to see him get 100 caps though, he deserves it :)
