Having seen this has just been awarded another Razzie I was reminded what it was actually like to watch this film. I think I saw it on Sky Movies years ago. I'd forgotten how many drink-spattering-out-of-nose-from-laughing/bewilderment moments this film had.

Watching a caveman destroy an alien civilisation with a 1,000 year old Harrier is the sort of thing you would dismiss as "Oh, it's bloody dream isn't it" if you were asleep and it honestly had me worried that I'd nodded off. I'm glad I didn't though. It really is worth a watch.

Amazon.com: Battlefield Earth: John Travolta, Forest Whitaker, Barry Pepper, Kim Coates, Sabine Karsenti, Michael Byrne, Christian Tessier, Sylvain Landry, Richard Tyson, Christopher Freeman, John Topor, Shaun Austin-Olsen, Roger Christian, Andrew St

Isn`t it only half the story as well? Cost a fortune (none of it on the screen) - but that's what happens when you let nutjob Travolta scientology the place up ;)

The original book wasn't bad to read at all.
Yes you can tell it was written by L.Ron Hubbard, but ignoring the Dianetics/Scientology "You can accomplish anything" attitude, it is a decent enough sci-fi book. I liked the way LRH went into technical details as to WHY the Psychlos protected their technology.

But it seriously had a few cavemen destroying the aliens with 1,000 year old jets ?

Well, don't know the context(should see BFE myself), but i can say that older tech winning over new tech isn't that far fetched.

If you take a look at something like cannonball vs modern tanks, or a M1 garand vs kevlar vests, sometimes the old "brute force over tech" wins.

Same could very well apply with projectile weapons and energy shields ;)

Didn't seem to hinder them when they took over the Earth. Also a 1,000 year old Harrier might be a tad too rusty to fly.

Well maybe not that extreme, but you get the point :D

Yeah, in the context of the movie i think there's a whole new level of not likely, now i'm even more tempted to see it though.

I love the quote the director used when picking up the razzie for Worst Film of the Decade last month.

It was from the New York Times:

"Battlefield Earth is about the extinction of the human race, and after seeing this movie I'm all for it."

haha. I really must get around to watching this.
