Rite its time for a new pc -

Whats better for gaming - sod video editing, just pure hardcore unadulterated gaming.

either : AMD (Newcastle) Athlon 64 3500+/2.2ghz L2-512kb Box 939pin

or

Intel Pentium® 4 550 3.4GHZ HT 1M 800FSB Processor With Ht Technology Retail

AMD Athlon 64 'Winchester' 3500+
Cheaper and better bang for your buck, as it can be overclocked bettererer.

Wait till Overclockers get it in stock. I don't think EBuyer sell the Winchesters yet. I never look at Scan either. Overpriced wankers.

next question is :

so i spend 70 quid more and get a Geforce 6800 Ultra with : 400MHz Core Engine Clock speed, 256MB 1100MHz high speed DDR3 memory

or save 70 and get a Radeon AX800 Pro with : 75MHz GPU Clock Speed, 256MB 900MHz GDDR3 memory

the same as : AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester 90nm (Socket 939) from oc @ £208?

I don't know. Is the Scan one 130nm?
Also, go for a 6800GT. These are almost certainly likely to flash to an Ultra card.

I didn't think that the 6800 GT needed flashing? It just overclocks (mine does anyway) to 400 / 1100.

I'm happy with my 9800 pro, but when I do upgrade it will probably be for a 6800GT. Nvidia have won by a clear mile this time round.

Scan one is Newcastle core I bet (130nm)

edit: helps if I spot someone said the same thing on page 2 :twak:

You talking AGP or PCI-E there ch3t?

tbh if your thinking of buying a new grafix card now it might be better to wait for the 2nd gen PCI-E cards, then wait to see who comes out on top

how long will that be? coz i need a new card - i have a geforce 4600 and its mmore sluggish than a slug trying to move with 3 tons on its back.

Yea i oc-ed it but that caused Source to crash

Next question :p

can i simply pull out mobo/gfx card/processor/psu/ram - replace them and plug old HD's back in or will it have a hissy fit and not let it work?

It'll want to configure some stuff, but essentially it's usually just plug 'n go with no serious stuff.

Ive always thought replacing a mobo entailed full install of windows. Thats what Ive done .
