Okay so in short, there is a piece of coursework I have due in, an interactive guide of the plymouth university campus as part of my degree. Of this piece, I have spent upwards of 40+hours having had zero flash knowledge before starting.

One of my group members has made two posts on our website (I've made 6)and used a couple of old songs for the project totaling at around 2 hours work, and that's being generous.

The other has been put in charge of research and so far has only come up with 3 google made links, one of which was to wikipedia and the other two are from our actual university website.../sigh.

So what do I do. The guy who did two hours ish is a good friend, the other seems like a good guy but I don't really know him. There is an optional 'weighted marking' sheet which cold be handed in with the coursework but I dunno whether to use it or not. My other module grades are suffering at the moment because of this and I don't want to seem like a twat. Ooh, and it's in on monday...

Suggestions?

edit: I'll post a link to it after its been handed in :)

Don't sacrifice your mark because others are taking the piss.

do it, i fucking hate having to do stuff at uni in groups which get graded, i dont like relying on other people as most people at uni do nothing and scrape lowest grades, and im not paying £8k a year or whatever for that.
you just have to make sure you start stuff early enough to be able to get the research and planning in and have extra time at the end to go through it.

sit em both down and ask them whether they feel they've actually done the work, that way it doesnt seem like your "backstabbing" them in any way, just tell them how you feel and that you want the grades

if you've put the work in and they havn't its just unfair on you, might be worth having a chat with your tutors about this as well as sometimes they'l award you extra marks if you can convey that you genuinely have done your part of the bargain, and its the others letting the side down

I was definitely in the lazy/scraping side of the uni go'ers, but when it came to group work always pulled my weight for simply not looking like a twat, its just unfair on those who want to really ace the whole shindig

With our group projects we need to give a list of the things that we have contributed too it. Have you not got one of those?

Work all handed in with skewed marking of 150%, 100%, 50% so if we get 66% overall, I cap out at 100% whereas he needs 80% to even pass the module.

If it gets contested or we have to go to the board about it, I'm more then just a little confident I'd get way way higher skewing then that even; I've even kept the whole 1 document he did for the project /sigh

Felt like a bastard doing it but the test this afternoon I haven't revised for at all as a result and the 4000word essay due in on wednesday I haven't started whereas he's completed it already.

surely the total for the work should be 100% ? :s
Was your own fault really for leaving it so late :p i would have just threatened him by saying if he doesnt pull his act together then you are going to mark on the sheet how little he has done

Take a lesson from it, dont do projects with friends :p

That's just the thing, I didn't leave it too late. Two days after the thing was set, I had a basic interface done and everytime I asked them to do something there was always something more important to do. Can't really complain at them when there is still a month to go.

Well another friend of mine who is a hard worker had a similar problem and is also aiming for a first so I know who I'll be doing group projects with from now on.

Sounds like your a project worker not a project manager in the future.

thing is mate, friend or not there will always be people who drag you down
Difference is you either be a loser with them, or make sure you dont

for future reference;
I would have just talked to your lecturer saying they are doing fuck all, alternatively if you want to be diplomatic have a task sheet drawn up, who needs to do what and get them to sign it. Sitck when something gets completed and who by, basically covering your ass when it comes to the assessment.

End of the day, its your future if they want to fuck about thats their business and lying on the report sheet will kill your grade more than increase theirs
