Anyone at BW ever think about organising or mebbe just kick startin some sorta Lan party for all the BW regulars. Or if someone out there had the time they might go about sortin it out???
Always thought a BW staff and users LAN party would be excellent, ok so i could never make it from Belfast but summit like that would be even good to hear about
biggrin.gif

Or has this been tried b4 and failed miserably??

Theres been a number of lans that bw ppl have been to but judging from the state they were in at euroquake I doubt they get let out too often.

I assume bw ppl are too busy running bw and prefer to going to lans organised by other ppl.

This whole lark started with lan parties for me. The hassle of gettin all me mates round here with their machines made playing on the net very appealing.
Therefore I'd love to play at a lan party.
However, my main issue with it is carting a bloody great PC and monitor around. I cant be arsed.

My perfect LAN party would be where all the pc's are provided and they're all quality boxes.
And a Bar.
And a hotel room (none of this slumped over the keyboard shit for this oldie)
Hell, whilst I'm about it I'll go for the blow-job option too.

Anyway, an organised lan is fine. I wanted to goto Fusion but forgot all about until thursday and then couldnt be arsed.

Just dont expect me to bring me machine.
Damn i shoulda gone to fusion......

Sounds cool if someone does it. and gives me a decent PC. I luv the idea of being able to shoot a railgun at the right time.
(I count as a BW 'user' don't I???)

Well as I said The Quake Team in time may discuss such an event with BarrysWorld. My thoughts are it would be a long way off though.

Oooooo, i'm really glad someone brought this up cause i was thinking about this meself just after Fusion.
I think if a few ppl could be dedicated enough to organise such an event then it could be a real success. I know that i'd be happy to help out in any way possible for something like this.
Just a few points to think about should this get going.

1) Location really needs to be central to the country. I know my train ticket from Worcester to Leeds last week cost me 48 quid and i'd imagine that ppl further south would have considered it just not possible. At least if its central then its gonna have a decent capture area.

2) The Bar!!! Needs to be attached or in the same room as the LAN party itself. I got pished off that in Fusion there were no seating areas (being as i was a mere Spectator for that day)

Just oppinions really but as i said, count me in!

Would be interesting - but I think would need to be with pre-prepared machines, etc. Since it would be best to be middle-country, it makes it hard for all but a few to bring along PC's...

Well worth a thought tho. And I think it would have a lot of interest.

A LAN would be a quality idea. Maybe it's just me, but Fusion sucked ass this year in my opinion. Nothing to do with the networking, the organisation, or anything else, coz I don't give a toss about that. It was simply because SOOO many people said they were coming and didn't turn up. And every time I said "I'm going to the bar" Bif whined like a schoolgirl and begged out with the excuse of a 'match'. Wuss. etc

Hmmm, to be honest i think i'd be quite happy with just the bar.
wink.gif

But no seriously, i think were gonna have to face facts that noone is gonna be able to provide all the pc's for us if its going to be a big event (to do so would require some serious sponsers i should imagine). But i think that if a balance could be struck between the playing and spectating then it would be a blast. As i said before, bar and seats in an area in view of, or attached to the main hall with a big screen showing matches, some cracking music and other gimmicks for the spectators.

Lets face it, we're all happy PLAYING, but watching can be quite a bore at times, especially when everyones wearing headphones.
That way, the people who can't afford to cart their computer half way across the country would still be able to enjoy themselves...and....turn up.

Come on Barrysworld, any thoughts on this yet? <excited now>

Brilliant idea IMHO. But it would have to be at a time (or rather on a day)when everyone is able to attend. eg. Sunday? or bank holiday?

Anywhere is fine so long as it's not Scotland

Whats wrong with it being in Scotland then,

Just read the above message again, replacing the word "scotland" with "south of Birmingham"

OOhhh yes, just south of Birmigham would be lovely with me being in Worcester. Heh - i wish.

Thought for the day (cause im off out in a mo and so cant be bothered to make a long post):-
For any event to be classed remotely good it requires an atmosphere, an atmosphere doesnt just appear, it needs creating.
If a LAN parties gonna be in the making under the name of BW. The go for the extreme and make that name bigger.

Cryptic Ath...

BW LAN would be coola on the condition that:

1) no PCs are taken
2) no games are played
3) there is ready access to beer
4) I dont have to travel

I'm sure these perfectly flexible stipulations should be easy enough to accommodate

(*seriously* tho, I'd be well up for this)

Theres a nice empty field next to my house that you could use.

Honestly, it really is a very nice field, I'm almost certain you aint gonna find somewhere nicer.

Seriously though it would be really nice if there was a major LAN that wasnt a 4 hour drive away from Scotland, go on, even the North East of England would be OK, there must be a reasonable number of Quakers around that area.

i must agree here
smile.gif

i am a sad, lonely individual with no form, and no intention of getting a social life. My life is my PC. And my soul is a peice of software occupying 400-500mb of space on my precious hard disc. That sofware is Quake 2. thats where it should be. A LAN party. Excellent. I mean - central england, Barrysworld logos everywhere. Perhaps hiring a warehouse or something similar, and im sure some companies would be ok to lend a few hundred half sharp pooters
smile.gif

id still have to bring along my keyboard and mouse though
couldnt be done with a wanky 2.99 mouse and crappy mousemat - and my keyboard got a power off key for thos frustrating moments...
Sod it, go all out BW lads - hire a bus to go round the country stopping at the bigger towns (northampton sounds good) and ending up in central england somewhere, accomdation of a sleeping bag in the warehouse ( if we need sleep that is) and a home made bar with enough kegs to keep the serbs happy for a century
smile.gif

different sections of computers, for quake, quake2, q3a, red alert (hehe yeah), tribes of course and other popular multiplayer games like motorhead (i aint played it for ages but it is class).
still - yeh i think the turnout would be fair
go for it lads

i think bw have gotta be taking note here - this amount of interest going on - i would certainly go even if there was a small charge to get in. I think it would be great to finally meet face to face all the BW regulars and doodz, and smack all the l33t crew
smile.gif
wouldnt ya just love to plant a great big knuckle into the forhead of said UNR players?? hehe only jokin - would be a great communal, whats the word here, PISSUP!!

Well i think thats going a little bit toooo far and same with the 'lending of comps'.
If this event goes ahead, it'll be in one place and probably at an establishment already equipped with a bar etc. The main purpose of my posts are to highlight the fact that a LAN party on its own will only be 'a LAN party'. To make it ring out BW event (with a good rep) they need to do just that little bit more and provide more facilities and spectator aspects on top of the norm.
At the end of the day, its not something that can be arranged in a day. Lets just wait for some feedback from the big boys.

err, how about Auchtermuchty

we got several large adjacent empty warehouses and 5 halls, plus about 6 bars, not bad for a town of population 2,000
