You are of course joking about charging 80 - 95 quid for a month for a game server??

Surely you cannot be serious?? can you??

You'll find for what we offer the price is competative with other companies offering similar products. BarryServers cost us a considerable amount to run, and unfortunately we're not a charity ;) If you consider the price to be too high, exercise your right to not buy one :)

If you look at the functionality and the ability to run any game or mod we support, and the ability to easily split the cost amongst your clan (bringing the price down for each clan member to probably 10-15 quid tops) it's good value for money.

But I would say that wouldn't I? :) Seriously, I think it's a top offer.

seems reasonable to me for what ya get. thing is that they *could* offer smaller config deals at a lower price but its not the number of options that cost the money, its buying the damn hardware and hosting it. theres a point where its just not worth their time and £50 is most definately below that point.

i assume there wouldnt be a problem with 2 clans sharing the cost if they are too small to buy a server on their own? thats not a 'commercial' server?

Sharing cost is perfectly acceptable, all that is required is setting up of regular barries transfers to the owner of the server.

Prices have to be like that, no point in offering a service that is losing you money.

£90 seems a bit steep when you consider you can get a colocated server (ie a full box, not a poxy port) running anything you want on a Tier 2 ISP for £100 a month...

I suspect some co-locs would not charge the same once they found out the bandwidth usage of a typical game server. Also how long would it take you to set up all the games/mods offered? The game server comes with around £150 of free game licenses, no need to buy stuff like PCAnywhere, auto crash detection on game instances, and sitting on a network you know is designed for gaming.

At a first though £90 may sound steep but imo its a fair price especialy when divided by clan members, most clans have +8 members anyway so it wont be costing each person that much.

tbh, given the performance of BW recently (and it's gotten even worse since the move), I think I'd rather have a co-lo'd connected to the internet via a 33.6

*shrug* been ok for me. if ppl dont appreciate the offer then either BW will be forced to revise it or remove it completely. The length of the previous clanserver waiting list spoke for itself though about how practical a co-loc was as an alternative for many people.

A&I used to have a BW server for £50 a month, and were pleased to get 4 months or sommin crazy free due to the revision of the system, but we're more than happy to pay £110 a month now because:

- Even if BW is slightly worse none of us have noticed it
- BW still performs better than any other GSP for us
- We missed our clan server and the freedom to play what we want when we want
- The two options that we wanted with our last clan server have come about, an extra £15 for the public options is fine and Deathace has been spreading rumours of how we'll be able to change configs and upload maps in this coming week

And also, £110 is a lot if you think of it as £110, anyone sane/not hugely rich will see that as between £5 and £15 a member, A&I are lucky enough to have a large squad playing TFC, CS and DMC and finding 11 members from that to pay £10 a month took us less than 24 hours. However, when we were just playing TFC we were going to share a server with TGC, another TFC clan, which would also have been fine .. unless you do play multiple games not many clans use it every night....

my two cents.. ^

Assume 12 players playing a game, 3Kb/sec per player. After 1 minute they would've transferred 2.1Mb (2160kb). After one hour they would've collectively transferred 129Mb (129600kb). That's in one hour.

Most co-lo's impose a 5Gb monthly restriction on traffic, which by my reckoning would equate to about

5000Mb (5120000kb) / 129Mb (129600kb)
= 39.50 hours

..of total playing time per month before you'd exceed your bandwidth allocation. This works out on average at approx. 1.3 hours of playing time per day.

Arguably not every game would involve 12 players. It could quite easily involve 6, 3, or even just 2 clanmembers. Still, food for thought.

Then again (point-counterpoint), cable modems and DSL cost ~£30 a month for unlimited (in theory anyway) bandwidth as well as ancilliary services such as telephone support, etc.
