> not very 3 dimensional, but not a bad version...

Like a lot of games, we are keeping the gameplay in 2D but the graphics are in 3D.

> quite a few of these going around...

All of our current games in development are developed with the option of easy customisation, most other 3D games out there don't customise as the workflow required to create a custom version is too complicated...

Calling it an online game is a bit of a stretch. Being an online game always implied (to me, at least) the prospect of other players to play with/against. None here, old bean.

Isn't this just a flash version of 'Fathom' on Sky interactive?

oh, and ignore Cage. He is, and always will be, a sad little attention seeking boy.
I thought it was just me with those feelings:D

Debateable, "online" effectively means on the internet, regardless of other players. The term "multiplayer" is more suited to your definition, which can done without internet connection (LAN, etc).

Online Game = internet based
Multiplayer Game = more than one player
Multiplayer Online Game (MPOG) = more than one player over the internet, e.g. Quake
Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) = lots of players over the internet, e.g. DAoC

I'm very well aware of the actual difference between the two. This was generally denoted by my use of the word implied.

Online gaming and multiplayer gaming tend to be synonymous. Unless its a multiplayer game there's no direct need to be online.

Shame it is quite clearly commercial then. Given the price-tag.

I didn't like the game either, tbh.

So, by your reasoning, no Shockwave games should exist unless they're multiplayer? Let's face it, the amount of people who download these "gamelets" and embed them into html pages just so they can play them locally isn't very high. Go to ElectroTank, for example. There are a good few multiplayer games there, but a large slice of the site is dedicated to single player games.

I agree that there's no need to be online, but that's just the way it is. :)

I think what Kez is trying to get across is the fact that most people when they see the term 'Online' assume more than one player, nothing more complex than that.

'Online' has become synonymous with Multi-player within the gaming community, mainly due to the way distributors advertise games

Single player games on a website are merely seen as Games.

In which case I read into Kez's last reply far too deeply. :(

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here managed to finish both the Barrys World level and the advanced level?

One of the major changes to Episode 2 ( due in July ) will be that the game will be easier to play ( the ship won't move as fast, gravity will have less of an effect, obstacles will move slower ) and pickups will be placed within the larger levels to offset damage etc.

Cheers...

To be honest, I couldn't be arsed with the advanced level, although I did complete the BW one. The prospect of having to go all the way to the middle bit through two (if I remember correctly) of those rotating thingit's, and then back again, TWICE, whilst having to survive with the knowledge that three small bumps with about 95% of the surroundings would result in death and a restart, didn't exactly float my boat.

We're planning on re-packaging Balls Up, making it a lot easier and adding some tweaks ( such as moving the camera back so that more of the level hazards can be viewed ), as well as updated graphics. The level ( advanced ) has been re-designed to get round the "traverse the same path twice" problem

I'll keep you posted, but it should be before the end of the month...
