Been sitting watching the election through the night hehe

He's given John McCain a complete drubbing. I think there's still a state or two where the votes still have to come in but atm its Obama 333 and Mcain 145.

It reminds me of the backlash in Britain against the Thatcher years when Labour got in.

What a night! I watched the whole thing (switching between Sky Movies every now and then) but it was an inspirational speech not just for America but for the whole world.

As Leona Lewis said, this result can have a knock on effect in bringing cultures together, into one, and i sincerely hope so.

Final election result was Republicans 155 - Democrats - 338 a landslide victory.

Lets hope he can do more than good speeches. Its a bit of a shitty pile he's inheriting, 2 wars and a global economic meltdown.

Historically Democratic governments have led to more wars and suffering.

Historically Democratic governments have led to more wars and suffering.

They have also tend have a much smaller amount of borrowing, and Clinton even managed to turn a giant national deficit into a tiny surplus, just before he got kicked out of office for shagging his secretary - unlucky america :p

I watched McCains concession speech and couldn't help thinking that if he'd campaigned on that same note he would have done a lot better - perhaps even won.

But yeah, Obama's speech was spine tingling even for me as a non-american. He probably didn't write it himself but he would have had a large hand in it and the delivery was all down to him.

Notice how mccain kept on going on and on about african americans, rather than actual policy statements on obama's part in his concession speech.

Not to stick a dampener on this as I hoped he would get in and is a man who could help heal alot of hurt, worldwide.

However, as most of America as gun owners and there's a hell of alot of racists out there I wonder how long it is before there's an assasination attempt. There was a couple of guys who were caught planning one when he was campaigning, now he is in power im sure feelings amongst the un educated racist groups will start to run strongly.

Personally I think Mcain is the better man, but he's at least 10 years too old, and not black, so he didnt have a chance.

In that election I would have voted Mccain - hes a known quantity who you could predict would do nothing too earth shattering.

Obama strikes me as a man who doesnt really know what he wants to do except say the word 'change' a lot.

One thing is certain - he got elected on the basis of tapping into american dreams - powerfull stuff but ultimately self-destructive to him because theres no way in hell he can actually deliver what he has promised by implication.

Theres going to be a lot of dis-illusioned voters in 4 years time - I expect a low turnout.

1 term Obama...

Its not a normal country - 94% of black people voted for Obama - that tells you a fair bit...

Do you not know how Mr Bush got his second term? American elections are about as straight as George Michael.
