Nice enough thingies, though...graffiti is still graffiti. Wouldn't want anyone painting things like that on my house, so how could i say it's ok to do so in the city walls.

Celebrities buy his art for 100's of thousands, he's done pretty well with the hype. Read the other day that a council were going to paint over his work, would make more money from selling it. I would have thought what he does was a gift to a council as he's basically giving them money with no questions asked. Ofc if he looses his hype then he becomes just another piece of graffiti on the wall, and I wouldn't think so highly of it then.

It's not great that he's inspiring others to try and be like him and probably bringing more in to the scene, as it just means more shit graffiti on the wall. Although I guess he's making them put a little more effort then BlAze Crew Rulz!

personally i think its great but the london councils are going to remove it.
it should stay imo, not only does it look good but it could be preserved for decades for new generations of people to look at.

afaik Banksy's never revealed his identity? Guess thats fake. Remember reading in FHM that getting hold of him was incredibly difficult, don't think they even spoke to him in the interview!

first things first...
he's a street artist - not a graffiti artist.
now thats out of the way - he's brilliant and deserves much respect. he did along of things among stealing a HUUUUUGE billboard poster thingie with a girl printed and demanded ransome for it and to show he ment business he cut one of her fingers off. company paid 10k and he gave it to charity. he bought 10 paris hilton cd's and redid the cover to show her real self etc. and put em back into the stores. he stole an elephant (i think, never got this verified) from a zoo and painted on it and generally done alot of cool stuff when street-art was passé. and they're huge - if you had any idea of what it takes to make pig stencils and paint them tri or quad coloured.

and i like the fact the rich people pay rich money for art thats basically free - his biggest achievement artwise imo

picture doesnt nescessearily have to be fake - if somebody caught him in action and took a photo (like he was walking away and they caught him by surprise) but it might be, since hes not holding any stencil or anything to prove he did the painting in the background

i rephrase the elephant job to this maybe:

I think he's a great artist and his grafitti actually means something than a bunch of shit tags all over the place. Its genuine art with a satiric twist.

Couldn't agree more. I really think the council have more urgent concerns that removing Banksy's work. Be a crying shame if they remove them, but I can understand why (defacing property an all that). Carry on doing your stuff, Banksy.

I am all for streetart and tags/graffiti. Think most of it looks cool and it is a nice way to show ideas and thoughts.

And what this Banksy creates is simply brilliant.

Well, i like the rule i heard somewhere: If it's a crime for one person, it's a crime for another.

So...some 13 year old tagger in a bus or this "excellent street artist"...equal criminals.

Just because he draws lines on public property with more artful way, doesn't make him any better.

Like i said, nice enough stuff, from a can that is.

cornokz - well, then he's not a writer (still i wouldnt put him under the catagory of graffiti artists. to me he is a street art producer) in the sence of tagging/throwups/pieces.

i agree toh - both are equal criminal if they are made under equal terms. but what do you mean from a can? you think art can be made better because its made with brush? its like saying: "hey, thats nice tagging, from a girl that is" (unless you ment it completly different, but it didnt sound like that)

I meant it as "considering what the method of painting is, that's rather nice looking". If it was done with a brush and canvas, it would be really rather "not".
