Bank accounts

I chose on how much free cash they each gave when you opened a student account (HSBC won at the time - £30, and a £200 intrest free overdraft too) - they were good when i finished my course too, had a meeting with the manager, explained to him i'd finished me course and needed a load of cash to get the most of my last 6 weeks in studentsville, and they game me an additional £600 interest free O/D so i could piss up the last few weeks as a student...

Although this popular myth still persists, let me set the record straight - as of about 2 years ago, you can use ANY cash machine on the Link network (that includes all the major banks) and not get charged a 'disloyalty fee'. The only time you get charged is by those "porta-cashpoints" that they have in petrol stations etc now, that is operated by the vendor and they charge everyone.

I agree with granny in that they're all arseholes. But even if you assume you're going to get totally shit customer service from everyone, there's still a massive difference between the interest rates paid/charged, and the "punishment fees" for going overdrawn etc. Typically the high street banks charge about 2.5-3x as much interest on an overdraft, pay out 30-40x less on credit interest, and charge 7x as much for punishment fees, as your average internet bank. Not a difficult choice to make, imo.

I really should of done after ShatWest screwed me around over a bleeding switch card... changed my bank account to one with a £6 a month charge (long story.. went into a branch.. they said I wasn't eligible to use my current account anymore [was for under 18's] and that they'd upgrade my account to a very similar one now I was an adult, if I just signed here........ Yup I learned the hard way heh :p)

Saigon. Shit. I'm still only in Saigon.

Er sorry... I'm with Lloyds except I've only got a Visa Electron so I know nothing and am not the person to ask at all.

*shuffles off*

Yeah, I would have gone for Solo/Switch which is a bit better iirc, but Lloyds only do Electron :/

As someone said in here before (I think) they don't even have raised letters!
