Bandwidth Question

Hi Guys

Is it possible to make something higher in priorty to your bandwidth?

Ie if I have programme A & B Using the net and I want A to have more bandwidth than B, is there a way if making A Use more bandwidth than B?

I am on Brodaband 600k and I am using Windows XP.

There is hardware 'out there' that can do this sort of thing, but it's not generally aimed at home users (eg: Packeteer http://www.packeteer.com/ or more expensive Cisco routers), perhaps a little Googling might turn up some software you can use (eg: iNetShaper http://www.winfiles32.com/NS/index.php)?

In theory the QoS stuff in WinXP will do it too, but I've never fiddled with it... only enough to turn the damned 'default on' off so it wouldn't do things I didn't want.

If you have a Linux machine as router then you want to look up 'shaper'.

or 'dummynet' if you are using freebsd

there is a program called netlimiter (I forget the website, google it.) which can limit the amount of bandwidth each program can use. It's not free though but you can try it for 30 days.
