Watching BoB on a widescreen with a 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround system in the dark is the best, its even better if your bedroom is as small as mine.

Back on topic - have you tried the book? Pretty good read. I picked up a copy of D-Day by the same author (Stephen A. Ambrose IIRC) which was a hefty read but well worth it.

I thought the same thing but he's only in it for a short time and he doesnt take anything away from how good the series is.

You're REALLY missing out if you don't watch it for that mate.

Btw, he's *good* in it too. He plays Captain Sobel and only appears in Episode 1 and then for about 2 minutes in one of the later episodes (midway through the series).

Capt. Sobel is a disgusting, oily, scheming total shithouse of a human being - Schwimmer carries this off easy for some reason ;).

As said above Damian Lewis is the star - great performance and the US accent is flawless.

Think I need to watch Bastogne again with the surround sound on full blast tonight - INCOMING! ;)

Tell me this tho (Unique selling point), does he get his head blown off? By a big gun?

Is he English then? Didn't know that. I noticed that the guy who played Soap in Lock Stock was in it, which made me chuckle.

Yep he's English mate. Quite a shock seeing him in a period drama on BBC1 with a crisp English accent.

btw cpt.Doom - no sadly Schwimmer/Sobel does not get his head blown off :)

I really like Ambrose's books, his style makes the books fun and easy to read. A lot of people dont like it though, and he was always slightly anti-British, well hardly mentions anyone who isnt American.
Saying that Pegasus Bridge is cool and is about British airbourne soldiers.

As for Sobel, hate him or hate him, he made Easy :)

You can do a little searching for Ambrose hate sites too, people going on about plagiarism and the like, there's some pretty fierce fights about it out on the intarweb.

No but by the end of the war Winters outranks him and forces Sobel to salute him.

Mleh. I've always been a 'European Theatre' man myself. For some reason the Pacific and Vietnam-type settings don't cut it for me. Maybe I can't relate to the climate and flora.

Or something.

Definitely a series to watch, though.

Just been watching this whole series again over the last week and dear God it is undoubtedly the best 'thing' ever to be commited to film.

Smugly satisfying to watch the 'making of' documentary and hear so many British accents. The bulk of the series filmed in Hatfield, half the cast (including the main character), all the special effects, costumes, set, props and post production done by Brits.

So when do we get a series focusing on British soldiers? :(

I'll answer that. WHEN THE BRITISH FILM INDUSTRY HAS £70M TO SPEND ON A TEN-PART TV SERIES.

Yes.

Well get to it young man. Hanks was largely responsible wan't he? He started as an actor didn't he? When you're not cutting hair, don't you act too?

The future of the British War Film is in your hands Summo, make us proud!

Okay. As it happens I've decided to phase out my IT career in favour of an acting one. I'm in two short films at the moment. It's a start, innit? Bear with me...

I'LL SAVE YOU BRITISH FILM INDUSTRY! I'LL HONOUR OUR FOREFATHERS. AS SOON AS I CAN FIND A SUITABLE STORY. AND MONEY. AND BACKING.

As long as it does involve the two cockney prats that appeared in the episode 1 ( or was it two) dressed as Jerrys
