Since the new servers are up, I have disastrous pings.
Before, I was under 100 ms

now I am between 250 and up to 400

Everything is fine with other servers.

you mean with something like neotrace, to work out if his line is going via france or something?

Well, you could, or you could go to a dos prompt and type:

hhhhmm...i never knew dos was so useful...oh well, on my 56k it takes over twice as long as neotrace, and you dont get that nice little map, nor do you get info on the server...

Yes, but visual trace programs are utter arse, very often inaccurate, and the only reason it takes long is cos the DOS program "tracert" has a longer timeout for DNS enquiries.

so it'll be normal speed if i trace one of the server IPs..hhmm.

tbh i actually like neotrace...sometimes the scope of bad routing doesn't really sink in untill you see a little green line go from one side of the map to the other, then back again..

hhmm, its exactly the same..

ok it gives you 3 pings at every hop, but it does nothing else, neotrace gives almost an identical readout *and theres info on the server for us nosy bastards*

Well,

I made a tracert

and in fact all communications seem to go through ebonet.net and at this point everything goes wrong...

I guess that ebone is the faulty router and barrys can't do anything...

For some reason your french ISP is routing you out to the USA, then bouncing back into the UK over the atlantic.

Contact your ISP and give them hell

/edit - oh, and don't worry about it not reaching its destination - BW servers/routers are set up to ignore trace traffic. The important thing was to see where the fault was, and it's that your ISP is not routing you directly over the English Channel, but out to america over the atlantic, then BACk to the UK over the atlantic again

Route ok now

Well, I guess they have changed something.
24h after my mail, the route is much better (quite direct to uk) and pings are back under 100ms.
