I think Mythic have a little to much faith in this game i mean it is good but a year before any releases, with SWG round the corner and Warcraft in the near future, i know i wont see TOA or the RVR expansion.

I tell you what the worrying thing is...

first quarter of 2004, when ToA has been released... it'll be all the same people saying "OMG 3 months till they release the RVR expansion, I wont be here by then!"

SWG - has any one ever noticed that most Star Wars games are crap (appart from X-wing/Tie Fighter) and besides not everyone will want to play a Sci-fi rpg. I like the idea of Covert/Overt but i think somepeople are expecting to be able to quit there RL and live the rest of there life playing SWG.

When my m8 told me that you won't be able to choose to be a Jedi Knights its kinda random, not sure if this is true but if it is i can see 1) lots of people re-roling there character ever few weeks and 2) Jedi Knight accounts being sold on ebay.

From reading the SW:G website, if you do get the opportunity to become a Jedi, and choose to accept, it makes you killable. This means that when you die you become a sort of ghost and can wander the universe, but can't actually do a lot.

So, if you have a character for 6 months, and then get the opportunity to become a jedi, then it is not an easy decision. You could get killed and that is virtually an end to your character. Another purpose of this is to prevent people using jedi powers unless they really need to. You don't want other players to know you are a jedi unless you really trust them.

Seems like if you buy a jedi via ebay, you are taking a huge risk as you could die within an hours play and thats it for that character (apart from as a ghost).

Interesting concept, have to see how it works out.

Not sure if what I said is 100percent true, but seems to be the case from what I read a few weeks back.

Last I heard was that if you gained the ability to become a Jedi then it unlocks a Jedi slot (since SWG is only 1 char slot not 4/8 like Daoc) so you can create a new char who is a Jedi. He can die a few times but after that can die permanently. If he becomes a Jedi Master and then dies then he comes back as a ghost.

Yup, they did it so your 6 month char isn't in trouble. You get a few deaths cos otherwise imagine dying because you lagged, and lost everything you'd done. If you die before becoming a Jedi master you can start again, the Jedi slot stays open so you can retry as many times as possible, if you die after reaching master you get a blue ghost, like Anakin, Obiwan and Yoda at the end of episode 6. Sounds good to me, give people a chance to become Jedi, but makes it so hard that you don't get armies of Jedi taking over cities, when the only Jedis in the films were Luke and Yoda.

And why is it that only the old players matter? Isnt the state of RvR the way ppl make it? Alot of ppl whine about zerging but go emain anyway, claiming they are only 1 fg. There is more then enough action in odins and HW. And besides those zones there are plenty more under-utilized RvR zones. Do you actually think any other game will improve the minds of ppl to zerg? centurys ago ppl already discovered that huge numbers >> tactics. People always want to win, so they will naturaly join forces to defeat the others.

Like already posted here, a RvR epansion will not change the emain attitude, only a sudden mind change of the players will. Im getting sick and tired of ppl who play the game, whine, bring this game to the ground and keep playing. This way alot of other ppl will get a negative image of the game play. 9 out of ten times I realy enjoy playing daoc. But when i read whines like these i got the feeling that it's only 1 out of 10 time because of the negative thoughts.

If you dont like Zerg, don't go emain, if you don't like daoc, bye.

Wise words chap, in agreement 100%.

Only down side is your a filthy Alb.

Cheers

I'd like to see more incentive to RVR other than just being able to gain realm ranks. Maybe a V hard dungeon like the SI epic dungeons where unique graphic items drop. So you have an incentive for PVe players to get involved in the RVR and where RVR players get recognised over normal players.

>where RVR players get recognised over normal players

A rather interesting expression. Sounds like those that prefer only to play fantasy deathmatching in emain etc. in order to get onto some high score list are less normal or maybe special people. Classifying gamers in only rvr or only pve seems a bit silly, a diet on only one of them will make the game bland at some stage. Variance is the keyword methinks. More variance in both rvr and pve is needed for doac to survive in the long run.

Has any word leaked out from Mythic what they are brainstorming about how to enhance rvr? More deathmatching attributes or something more substantial from a realm perspective? After notice of this delay I have a growning feeling that my retirement from doac will turn into a permanent retirement.
