A blank is a shell or case which is crimped or blocked at the end which is filled with powder and when fired makes the sound the weapon would make. No bullet tip flying about just a big bang

BAE own H&K as well, so by that rationale our boys should actually be running round with G3s and the like. Shame they don't really, given H&K make the best weapons in the world...

The reason we bought the SA-80 contract was mainly due to the fact that some retard (specifically, the Arms Commission) thought it was a good gun, based on the units they were supplied for testing. It was only after they started being deployed into the field in large numbers that we started realising they were shite... by which time it was a bit late.

The SA-80 is not a "shit" weapon as such, although it has had teething problems from day one and is inferior to a lot of other weapons on the market. The reason that its getting a bad press is because the British Army is one of the best in the world and seeing them go into action without the best equipment isn't really doing them justice.
My point is that if the SAS choose other weapons instead of the SA80, then that in itself surely says something about the quality of the rifle. As it is, there is quite obviously better gear available and if the powers that be only could swallow their pride and admit for once that we haven't designed the worlds greatest rifle then British soldiers might get issued with a decent rifle.

For the record, I reckon either FNC's or M4's with M249 Squad Auto's (please god, let us NEVER get rid of the Jimpy) as a replacement or go the whole hog and get the Stery AUG weapons system, with would be better from a training point at least because then recruits only have to learn one system.

Hit the nail on the head really. Although I reckon the G36 would be the best bet for rilfle, it and the G11 are supposed to be the "tools of tomorrow's soldier", or something stupid.

Maybe but at the end of the day they still don't look a round enough and seem unwilling to change them. The problem is that these weapons are our soldiers last defence when they don't work and the MOD then blames the soldiers it takes the PISS.

I was always under the assumption you needed a license to keep a replica as well.

I wonder what - in practice - would actually happen if you walked down the High Street waving it around? Be an interesting experiment really to see how long it would be before half the town was cordoned off and filled with armed Police.

The SAS is a special forces unit, they use different weapons cos they fulfil a different role to basic infantry, they don't require long rifles as most special forces work is done at shortish ranges where smaller more compact weaponry is more useful. That's why the US army uses M16 rifles whereas their special forces go for weapons like the M4

We were on rugby tour in Worcester, and one of the lads bought a replica hand gun for about a tenner - we were in a pub and he was letting off the caps - we walked outside and two coppers were waiting for us - they had had reports that someone had a gun in the pub, and were checking it out - 'had we seen it ?' - the armed response unit was on the way.

'course not officers - gun promptly thrown in river.

Hmm, i think commiting armed robery with a fake gun, has the same sentance as commiting armed robery with a real gun...

Makes sense i s'pose.

There was some Fake Guns at the Manchester Fair yesterday (Looked / Weighed like Kid Guns) like, AK47, Artic Warfair Magnums, they didnt look realistic, but then we come across what looked like Desert Eagles, they looked very real, and where only for a fiver, they fired objects (not sure what) but someone could have mistaked em for real ones
