Back to TFC?

I stopped playin tfc in 99' I think it was. I thoroughly enjoyed playing in a clan of of ppl I knew in the "real" world back then which unfortunatly went sorta to the wall. I have not played one game since, and have been deprived. I was brain washed by UT but stopped playin that about 4months ago. I did briefly play T2 as well but that didn't last.

Anyone fink there's a point in going back to TFC or even starting CS or sommet. I dunno if it's too late now.

plse be nice, i'm from General Forums, on a fly by visit.

I'm just seein' what ppl fink, who are in da community and know about the state of the game and it's future.

Well sure you can try it again...youve got nothing to lose except some wasted hours if you dont like it.

I was probably playing tfc in 99 when you were - its really gone the same as any community, where it starts off small and friendly and then gets large and lamers start playing it.

As for CS, well i hear they have a bit of a cheat problem at the moment.

I to had taken a break from CS and TFC and have been playing again for the last couple of months, and have enjoyed every minute of it so far, bit of a change from T2 as i kept on trying to jet pack around the map .

I’d say give it ago.

But there were a few back then, but rather than hate them as people do now, you laughed with them, instead of getting all the anti, as what happens now


Me thinks the problem now is that people start off in tfc, just because it's easy fodder, aka spamming chokes ect....

This leads to many team games being ruined on public servers, and thus there's little fun compared to the old days of the small community servers.

Thats why i still play quake 2 ctf from time to time, allways get a good game everytime i go back over and meet up with the guys.

Is it meh, or is gaming just not what it used to be? Or am I just living in a nostalgic fantasy world which always exists at the start of a game's life?

I fink I will give tfc another go, nothing to lose.

Tbh if i were just starting up in the world of multi player, it certainly wouldn't have had the apeal of what it did back then.

Back in the day i just couldn't wait till i had the abilty to get in with a clan, get my personalised clan skin and name banner.
Then do my worse on a server promoting the clans good name. In this day and age im far more likely to get called a cheat for doing that, instead of the old 'wp'.

Imho tfc now is best well played in the early hours of sunday morning, allways seem to get average to better games at 1 or 2 in the morning.

Just a shame i can't get one at 6-7 in the evening like the good old days

When BW only had 2 TFC servers, and you knew everyone who was on them.

Except some lamer called British Beef - no one liked him

I wemember clocking up countless 1p per min charges on the bloody WON chat rooms with a blokeh I used to know who lived across the road, finding games and going to play, to find we were crap, but hell it was fun.

Just seemed a totally different culture surrounding gaming, now it's become a pop culture frenzy of uncultured, unfriendly and arrogant gits. Sorry if this is a wild generalisation, but I just keep finding it true, wherever I turn. :/

Mainly because 6 out of every 10 rounds i fire go through the model instead of droping it like the good old days. With this wonderfull, the red dot 'doesn't' drag 2 foot behind your target in the middle of your cross hair netcode, nobody even bothers name calling me now

Blimey, when you played as British Beef, from what I remember, you and Lilly were actually quite matey, how times change

The 6-o-clock rush. I remember thinking 'If I don't connect at 5:55 then rush to the server I'll never be able to get on for the rest of the night'

I think I stayed on the BW2 server for 8 hours solid one sunday, too scared to lose my spot

I'd never play MP games these days, if I was new (hell, I don't now any way, because I saw how it was turning out) its just too crap, there's little in the way of community, because of the way they've exponentially (sic) grown, which for the most part includes the 'lamer' community.
I remember when the entire servers would club together to get on the sky boxes on that silly hunted map that used Kingpin textures (I forget the name) - it was considered cheating, but it was somehow 'innocent' cheating, which everyone wanted a part in... now its just lameo aimbots.

2000 it started going downhill, and it's still sliding

I used to palt CS a lot, but they changed over to TFC, the game play was a lot fast, no sitting around (If u where crap) and waiting for the rest of the team to die...

But be warned

Once you start to play tfc, there is no east way to go back and play CS. It just seams for to sloooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

Most intense game ever was q3dm1 30 min with 20 players in.

Christ it's madness, gives you a good feeling though when it's over and your 50 in front of everybody else.

Must be doing something right, even though it's just insane madness

It was a great community in the past. I remember playing in the SAS TFC clan back in 98/99 in the UKTFCL.

CS is just a bunch of cheaters and isn't really worth it. TFC still rulez tho.

I have played TFC for years now, and I moved over to CS when I got broadband.

I am now debating going back to TFC as CS has completely lost it, noticably even in the relatively short space of time I have been playing it - claims of cheating, lamers flaming, TKers, camping, and annoying voice chat.

I suspect TFC has declined whilst I have stopped playing, but we will see. I may ditch HL mods and go for some MMRPG (eg EQ)instead.

Wow CS and TFC in the same thred and no flaming. The community has calmed down.
Never really got too bored of TFC.
If I do get bored I run a concmap server over my cable and have a few rounds on minigolf2.
But this doesnt happen often seeing as though BW destroyed my life and gave us a 2fort only server. God I love that server.
