Like this? This is a modded one as far as I know, standard Chaos Space Marines are more like this and there, aside from colour, is a huge difference still.

But the best Warhammer units this far are the Squats. Have a 200.000k point army of them. And my Overlord Airship, the train and golgotha cannons are always out in the open..

Most of the over the top detail on that armour is actually part of the trophy system within warhammer.

Most notably the skulls on spikes etc, basically a way of identifying your enemy before they get in range, if they got lots of fancy decor they are most likely badass's.

think of it as a visual representation of realm rank, more trophies = higher rank.

Let over-the-top armor be a WoW thing, although warhammer as a real life game is famous for over-the-top stuff..

iirc warhammer STARTED the "over-the-top" thing

so removing that would basically remove warhammer from warhammer
