So i went back gym for the first time in quite a few months, all good except for one issue. Fecking blisters.

I've seen some ideas being panned around, about wearing two pairs of socks, or taping trouble areas up. It sounds gross though, plus surely if you wear two pairs of socks won't that just make your feet sweat even more, or worse cause more damage to your feet if the trainers don't have much give in them?

I was thinking of investing in some decent new trainers, but i also seen some sports socks, but that Dri Fit "technology" is fucking horrid on rugby shirts with how tight it is, god knows what it would be like on socks.

Won't matter much for now anyway, first day back at the gym and a few hours prior i felt my ankle aching a bit, went gym, felt okay and then today the issue from a few months ago comes back. Woot!

Two pairs of socks is a terrible idea. One pair of proper sports socks is all you need. TBH with a half decent pair of trainers you shouldn't be getting blisters anyway.

Ill fitting / bad shoes will give you blisters. Have you gone and got your feet measured properly and purchased the recommended shoes accordingly? I presume you're running, are you wearing running shoes?

I know it sounds a bit obvious, but when I bought hillwalking boots last year I thought "I'm a size 9, I'll just order a size 9" but my forever sensible old man said "don't be a cock, get your feet measured and make sure the boots you want fit properly". I got my feet measured, one foot is a 9 and the other is a 9.5 - throw in thick hillwalking socks and I ended up getting a size 10.5 which fit perfectly and I have never had issues with long days on the hills.

Shoes, it's all to do with the shoes when it comes to feet. Get yourself a pair of RUNNING shoes for cardio and lifting (Benefits of balance on both parts)

For hands? Get a pair of training gloves, you're going to get them regardless, but they help.

What G said, Get to somewhere like Clarks who will measure your feet. You are getting blisters because your feet are moving around inside your shoes / trainers and rubbing. Check your laces are done up tightly as well.

Well 2-3 weeks ago i got some of those DriFit socks as well as some Nike trainers, working fantastic they were. Strange thing is, i took it up just a notch slightly today on treadmill powerwalking, and at about the 40-45min mark i got some discomfort on my foot.

Had a shower and see i've numerous blisters on both feet, one causing more discomfort than the rest. Won't be at the gym next few days so i'm sure i would recover, but damn. I thought this combination would have been good for 10-20mile runs, not 4 mile walks.

See if there's a 'Sweatshop' shop in your area, incredibly helpful bunch there. I went there, they measured my feet and stuck me on a treadmill to view my posture while running, slow mo and all that shit. Turns out I bent my ankles a bit while running, so they recommended me a pair with extra height in a certain part of the sole.

Oh and yeah, get some decent fitting shoes :p

Piss on your feet for a few weeks and that will harden the skin so no more blisters .

Cheap and simple!

helpful lot here I'm sure. my 2p: don't run on new kit straight away. wear that shit around the house and stuff for a couple weeks, and then go running. also, get proper shoes. they may set you back a few bob, but your feet, ankles, knees, hips and lower back will thank you.

White spirits will toughen the skin on your feet over time.

I think i might have fucked up potentially and i've only just relised. I bought those Nike Dri Fit socks which clearly weren't doing the job i needed (Preventing blisters). I looked over the description again and seen the ones i have linked are actually... Golf socks?! The fuck. Since when did golfers do anything so strenuous other than swinging a frigging golf club around and making their caddy carry everything.

It seems the Dri Fit socks come in different variations... Anti Blister socks being another version of Dri Fit.

Wish i noticed that sooner :<.

I do have a slightly seperate question since after todays gym session my blisters have seized up again, i'm going to try taping my blisters up with duct tape over the specific area, in a hope it alleviates the issue until my new socks arrive. But if i wear my new socks with a blister present, will the blister get worse still or will they start to go down?

Why not just take a few days/a week out while they heal? I can't see these anti-blister socks shielding current blisters and making them go away.

A round of golf is very, very good exercise particularly if you carry your clubs. It can burn over 700 calories a game not to mention the cardio benefit of all the walking and core muscle use of the club swinging.

Not yet, if the new socks don't improve them (Which i think they probably will since i'll have the proper ones then...) then that will be my last line i think, i mean if there is some abnormality with my feet it would no doubt mean having to spend money on rectifying them with special trainers or what not. The trainers i have now though are really comfy and i'm feeling absolutely no discomfort using them, except with the blisters.

I should point out however, i'm not running on the treadmills, merely walking at a fast pace. Maybe doing 4-mile walks overall which works out at about 5.5mph so it's not as if i'm running at high speeds. so i'm not anywhere near getting the best out of the trainers anyway. Still suppose it all depends on sweat build up so it wouldn't matter much maybe.

No you are missing the point entirely, getting your feet measured should be the first step not the last. It's not about abnormalities it's about getting the right size shoe. Your inability to grasp this yet spend money on wishful thinking is just ridiculous.

I must admit I never really measured my feet before I just took whichever felt better at the time and within my budget kind of thing, but I went into a sports direct store recently and used their foot measurer board on the shop floor. It basically told you the size and if you had flat feet or had more of an arc in the middle your foot.

Since I wore just regular trainers before I bought some running / exercise trainers with the cushion in the centre foot my arched feet, and gel sole as my heels ache after long periods or work. It's soo much better, and it was just a simple measuring board which showed your footprint also.

I'd definetly recommend measuring feet and proper exercise footwear as echoed by soem 4-5 other posters here :)

Calories consumed > recommended calories for the day.

Simples!
