Yeah seems it is due officially either end of this year or start of next year in UK, although to be honest they seem a bit slow because I sure it should of been here a while ago. Another option perhaps - http://www.tado.com/de-en/

that sounds very interesting Deeblar. I have a programmable thermostat, but it's terriffically unfriendly so I have one program that starts the heating at 16hrs and shuts it off again at 22hrs, or I hand operate / just turn it off entirely (which is what I do in summer). I'm considering getting a new kitchen if I ever manage to sell the GT, which I'd like to be smart and eco friendly, but entire home integration seems beyond the scope of a one-person household to me.
I disagree, home automation allows me to remotely control things that cost me money, not coming home tonight? Easy turn the heating/hot water off (well frost protection mode), going home early, turn the heating on :), my lighting turns on and off when it gets dark, light, at randomly set times etc. I am also replacing all my 50w halogen bulbs with dimmable LEDs to save money over the next few years (doubt I will move again now). The cost of fuel in the UK is fucking absurd.

Yet ironically our energy prices are some where in the middle of what the other European countries pay with the other major European countries all paying more, I personally think we've become some what wasteful so any systems that help reduce energy use will help everyone.

I believe it is an alternative to WiFi:

I don't have Wi-Fi. Can I still use tado°?

Yes, Wi-Fi is not necessary to use tado°. The supplied tado° gateway is connected to your internet router using the supplied network cable and communicates with the tado° box and the temperature sensor via radio (868 MHz).

Well on the savings note, I have LED nearly everywhere, and where I don't I have those energy savings bulbs. I am firmly converted to LED I must say, and the tech is coming on in leaps and bounds re how nice the light is and stuff. Only thing I have against is that certain LEDS can hum when dimmed unless hooked up to specialist dimmer switches.

I don't need to control my hot water as I am connected to the city wide hot water grid here in my city: my heating and hot running water comes from this grid. The only thing I could do is, as you also indicate: turn off the heating if I'm not coming home or will be later.

Where I live there is no charge for heating (I think that only establishments in Sweden that have a separate oil tank have to concern themselves with heating bills) however I would welcome the ability to reduce the electric bill... I use energy saving lights all over the apartment and still it is c. 1750 sek per quarter ;(.. Cooking gas is a fixed fee according to the size of the apartment.
