Audioslave/Civilian

Most of those in the know (i.e. Scoobs) will probably have heard this before but...

Audioslave/Civilian is a new band formed from the remaining members of Rage against the machine and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden.

Some of their Demo tracks are available to download using Kaaza, just search for audioslave or civilian.

It is basically just the Rage sound with Chris's vocals but I think it works quite well and have been a fan of both from the start.

May be worth while checking out if you haven't done so.

I got the cd on monday, I have to say its very Led Zeppelin, I have never really liked Chris Cornell's voice.

Tom Morello's guitar is pure genius though.

I am more excited about Zak De La Rocha's solo effort.

It's a pity that Zak was basically the best thing in RATM. I'll check out Audioslave, but I doubt I'll like them.

Didn't know it was out already.

The thing I liked about Cornell's voice was that it was unique enough to separate him from the rest of the Seattle grunge scene.

But i think audioslave have only been on the go a year or so....not very long at all.

Bollocks.

Tom Morello gave them the sound they had.

:)

But in any case it was a team effort.

Maybe, but if that's true then Audioslave are just going to sound like a second rate RATM with a shit vocalist.

Can you honestly imagine anyone else shouting "FUCK YOU, I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME" over and over?

No I can't but then that's not the point is it?

They aren't recreating RATM....it a NEW band.

And Cornell isn't a shit vocalist. He can sing and Soundgarden wouldn't who they were if everyone thought he was crap would they?

There is no denying that you can hear RATM in this band but it's worth a try if nothing else.

The band members have explicitly said they've tried to keep the sound of RATM, so to me it sounds like they just replaced the vocalist.

Like I said, RATM were good but nothing special. Audioslave are unlikely to be any better than a second rate RATM (without sounding identical).

Any cd with Tom Morello on is worth getting, if you like Led Zeppelin its worth getting, nothing about it reminded me of RATM. In my disabled opinion the first RATM cd was a one off and after that their other releases just didn't compare. You either love Cornells voice or hate it, I hate it unfortunately, although I can see the talent.

Well, I must confess to having not knowingly heard Chris Cornell's voice... :/

He won't be as leet as Zak though!

I'll admit it was literally months ago that I last heard the album (under the Civilian guise, indeed) but I don't recall anything remotely Zeppelin about it. It was also utter fucking twench, and as such, was one of the few directories to be deleted in The Great Cull of Summer '02. Their new name is infinately worse, too.

I think it must hold somesort of record though; For being in the hands of thieves everywhere so much earlier than it was released.

Ok, here's my thoughts:

The name is utter pants, its as if they're trying to be subtle about something deep and meaningful yet fail miserably.

The sound is very much Rage and at the same time very much Soundgarden and also at the same time, its something new. It's most definately not zepp though, wtf are you guys smoking.

The band members have explicitly said they've tried to keep the sound of RATM, so to me it sounds like they just replaced the vocalist.

Na, its not RATM of old and the political slant of it has all gone, theres no anger left in the music anymore, sure Chris puts his heart into the lyrics, but the lyrics are a bit empty and well, er shit.
The overall sound isnt bad, but go any deeper and it starts to fall apart.

As for RATM, they wouldnt have made it without either zak or morello, they both added a unique style to the music which combined into something beyond awesome. Morello is a stunning guitar player and zak is a unique singer with a very strong emotional tie to the songs and sings them with true meaning. (wether you believe that meaning or not is a different matter)

Edit : Forgot to mention - hypnotize is god awful pile of poo, I almost slit my wrists.
