Audio from DVD

I'm on a roll in this forum and I have another question. :)

I have some DVDs which have particular songs on them and I want to get those songs into MP3 files.

Sounds simple to me - converting from a digital source to a digital output, but dear God I've been led round the houses with DVD rippers, encoders, converters and I'm still nowhere near. I got further with Windows Sound Recorder, ffs.

So, does anybody know of a way to convert about 3-4mins of DVD into an audio file? Preferably one that isn't 30GB.

Gordon Knot should have a button that rips the sound track to a wav file. Or even virtualdub might do it. Don't have them installed atm so that's my contribution.

Oh and FIRST POST!

*EDIT* Bollocks should have read your whole post :(

But definately check out:

If you haven't already.

Hi Summo

If .Cask's programs do as he states, then that sounds perfect (all you need do then is convert the .wav files to MP3/WMA etc. format).

Otherwise, your best bet is to place the disk in an external DVD player (if you happen to have one handy) and connect the player via a line-in socket to your PC. You could then simply play the movie and start recording (digital line-ins will allow superior capturing, otherwise the signal will be standar stereo).

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance

P.S. I assume you're not talkng about DVD-Audio disks?

A simple little utility called Total Recorder is doing the job nicely. :)

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. I owe you money from today.

I appreciate your generosity in offering to take my old PC parts off my hands, but they're destined to go into a PC for my dad. ;)

1) Rip the vobs to your hard drive.
2) Use DVD2AVI to extract a decoded wave file (or a transcoded AC3 file).
3) Encode this to MP3 and then use a tool like CoolEdit to cut away the crap you don't want, and you're left with a very nice sounding bit of MP3 from the original source.

Yer I know you've already found the solution, but this is like, my way. :(
