oh so it might not just be propaganda that they started xx months ago? the yanks realise noone is backing their own 'reign of terror' and so they need to do something to get the public back on their side.

So's taping off the telly, but I digress...
You both seem to have missed my point ever so slightly, but thats ok because I'll spell it out for you.
Piracy is *legally* considered theft. However, regardless of whether people 'would have bought it anyway' or the price/cost of the software piracy involved it is, in my opinion at least, de facto a 'lesser' crime than that of, lets say..., murder and thus should be punished accordingly.
I have actually read the (many) article(s) on the 'operation' and thus already know this. Although I am also aware of something that you seem entirely ignorant of: that the recent tragedies merely add to a long list of FBI fuckups, rather than standing out as one isolated incident against a usually top notch service.

ok heres my thoughts.........

its become easier for people to d/l warez etc inthe past year or so. No longer do peeps have to trawl bullitin boards and newsgroups with the arrival of various filesharing proggys. The bottom line is that all it does is reduce the profits made by the software companies which ultimately leads to a slow down in the technical development of games etc.
Now I can see exactly why people download this stuff. Aside from saving money theres a certain caveman ...look honey ive killed tonights dinner......element to it. The excitment of beating the system from your own home....certainly easier than shoplifting and much less risky. Theres a sense of gratification and achievement at obtaining something free and illegaly rather than paying for it. Mind you youve 'worked' hard for it. Searched for the sortware you want, d/l it and then maybe burning it to a cdr.....a sense of achievement you might say
Flipping the coin theres a sense of pride in the purchase of a game. Maybe youve saved up for it for a few weeks and the excitement of the long awaited expectation of a new release has been building.
The conclusion is whether its right or wrong either legaly of moraly in the individuals mind their gonna do what their gonna do.
