This is an internet forum with a large memberbase based on a competative game, it is naive to think that all the flame/whine will stop.

I think the high whine factor and flaming it's what keeps this forum alive and kickin'.

I'm sick and tired of the crappy attitude most people have on here - it typifies whats wrong with the world today - instant gratification, exactly the way i want it or i'm going to complain, basically.

I post on a forum called team 8 - its smaller than FH and nothing to do with DAOC although it does support some online games and a lot of RPG's. They have a community in the high 100's roughly of regular users/posters depending on what time of year it is, what theyre working on atm etc etc.

Know how many whine threads i've seen there in a year? None. Know how many whine posts i've seen there in a year? THREE. THREE PISSING POSTS. IN A YEAR. I can see three whine THREADS in the top 10 here.

They have a great sense of community at that forum that is currently TOTALLY absent from Freddieshouse. I'm not saying we should all link arms and hug each other or something. I am saying we're a dwindling community playing a game thats on a downslope, and its either pull the fuck together or carry on bitching and whining until theres nobody left.

Mods - a number of other forums I know have what i'd consider a good attitude to people who have nothing positive to contribute to the community (they don't expect you to ass-kiss they expect positive comments or at least politely phrased, well reasoned arguments). If youre incapable of following that policy then they don't want you on that forum and will act accordingly.

In short i'd MUCH rather FH had a community of only 100 people that behaved maturely, contributed sensibly and had fun discussions/debates or hell even heated debates. Whats growing old for me personally is the constant shitstorm thrown around by the more childish members of the boards who can't see beyond their own noses. You do your modding the way you want, but its simple - i'd have banned at least 30-40 people from this forum in the last week alone for not being able to contribute to the community in any way.

Start contributing something positive, instead of taking stuff away, or get the fuck off the boards people. I for one will if you don't.

whines can be fun to read sometimes but pathetic ones saying "OMG why did u add blah blah blah or OMG u zerged me" suck big time

Wasn't intended as a cheap shot Though since some people are rather touchy about it I shoulda left out the adding comment and replaced it with "no fighting I was in fop!"* or "Keys! keys!"

There's plenty of whines on this forum for people using:

1. bows
2. stealth
3. lifetaps
4. pets
5. ML abilities
6. RAs
7. class abilities

never mind numerical advantage or higher RR...

Just that instead of a 3-years-ago-FH whine of "omgz it's unfair class X gets Y" which usually turned into a "well they have these disadvantages and A class gets B" discussion.

Nowadays we get "omgz you are so lame you used your abilities and I had hopped three times around the bridge to say that it was a no-XYZ fight!"

Agramon is supposed to be like...hmm best way to think of it...it's a cross between The Running Man and It's a Knockout.

Normal RvR is like watching the opening scenes of Gladiator, with the adding archers and all the noob Romans setting up with BP balistas

incidentally I've no objection to people setting up their rules for them and their friends - if everyone in the 8v8 agramon crowd wants to make a rule that if you have three fops and a foh up at once then it's armour off for the rest of the evening that's cool...

The problem is when you expect everyone else to follow along. No matter what you're expecting

(i.e. this also applies to people who expect their realm mates to come help defend/take a keep. Though that sort of whine usually appears on realm boards if it does and so much less so these days.)

Not realy expect, request, plead etc. Every playstyle should have a safe haven, we have solo areas (for visuals too that Ronso does on Sundays), you can always go iRvR or siege a keep. Agramon is where the FG's want to go for clean FG fights and general E-Peen swinging.
It's our game so we prefer having it like this since it means that people who like mass fights dont end up storming through the people who want to do FG fights. etc.

I wonder if it's just all this fracturing off into separate little groups that's killing the community* - noone plays the whole game anymore they play their own solo or 8v8 variant by themselves..


*This is arguable - some people might think the community is stronger than ever, I'm not of that opinion.

I suppose some of these whines might seem new and novel to the posters... the lack of originality in the whine might just be a sign of the game stagnating (imo of course - DR didn't provide enough new entertainment to last us quite till LOTM...)

Most of you hurling insults at me for the post are examples of what i personally detest about this board. As such i didnt expect a positive response from any of you so the fact youre continuing down your current path is no suprise to me.

As for offering suggestions and fixes to the problem Sharkith, i think you'll find i did. If someone has a post history of consistent whine, abuse or moaning with no effort to contribute anything to the community in any way, ban them. Permenantly. Then ban the next account they make, and so on and so on. Not saying ban anyone who disagrees, but ban anyone who is unable to have a reasoned discussion or at least offer the occasional useful suggestion. Certain people here fall into that category. I have nothing against people who need to learn or improve, i have something against morons who won't improve or learn to better themselves or say anything but "STFU NOOB" etc etc. Its something society is increasingly breeding and something i personally (And i'm not alone in this looking at some of the responses) detest.

Those of you flaming away, if you were flaming due to not liking my first post it was probably (not definately, but probably) aimed at you anyway. If youre flaming because you dont like me then i probably don't care enough about your opinion for it to matter.

Film, don't take it as me being a dick to the mods btw, its more a case of i don't think youre harsh enough. Sure the assholes of the board can be funny sometimes, but it gets old fast.

NVM you have obviously got a bee in your bonnet about something. Banning is the path to the dark side - the Mods have good polices here and personally I think they work really good despite all the provocation. If you can't stand the heat - go buy some ice cream or maybe some sherbert.

seriously though u got a point evita. but its pretty much always been this way. theres still some excellent post and informative stuff but in the RVR forum it does seem like every post just decends into a shit slinging contest.

I mean I make a post on mid to provide people with my contact details, basically offering assistence to anyone that has any questions or needs help or anything basically. And I just an ear bashing from the usuall lemons. FU u sux!

while i agree with much of what you say its only really confined to the RVR boards, which have and always will be a flame fest i think its good that people from enemy realms dont get along.

I think mods are doing an excellent job atm, the level of things is just about perfect imo.

Reportsystem works, threads are allowed to have some whine/crying/flameing etc in em, they get modded if needed and ultimately closed if they are beyond saving. It is exactly as I wanted things to be.

Evita, if you think things go to far sometimes, just report the posts.

I suppose you're refering to his playstyle then. He's on about the general atitude on the forums, which is quite a different thing. On the forums, I haven't seen Evita bitching much at all, and when he does, it usually just comes down to him defending himself and/or his views on the game when someone else starts throwing shit at him. I can't recall any actual whine started by him in the past.
