Athlon 1.2GHz and Voodoo 3

I recently upgraded my PII 350MHz PC to 1.2GHz Athlon with DDR motherboard. I'm only a humble modem user (56K type) at the moment, but I was quite happy playing in the 90's fps using my vd3 3000. My fps is now approx 140, with the same graphics card, but the display is extremely jerky, I tried running the AGP at 1x/2x instead of 4x, but it is still very fatiguing playing Q2. Anyone else experienced the same problem? Any solutions? I'm getting ADSL installed tomorrow, so hopefully that'll cure some of the latency.

Thanks,
InSuLt

If you are talking about playing Q2 online, then put a cap on your fps at about 85 on a modem...

ADSL will mean that you can run at higher fps...

I personally couldn't use much about 60-70 fps on a modem without the connection screwing up.

You could try using m_filter 1. It might be the mouse refresh.

What mouse are you using m8?
(Microshaft? Logitech? Ball? OPti?

USB or ps2?

If you are using a ps2 mouse, download a proggie called ps2rate.
Do a search in www.google.com or similar for ps2rate.

Install and select the boxes 'don't detect' and 'make default' and put the refresh to 200Hz. Click - OK or 'do it' or whatever and your mouse should be a lot happier.

You won't need m_filter 1 if you increase the refresh liek that, but it's personal choice really.

Jimbo

Are you still using your 3DFX card? I'm surprised you get 140fps with that
