Aten's Shield

I spent a good bit of time on 'Treasure Island' yesterday, hunting for Aten's Shield. Didn't manage it (yet). I'm not 'whining' though, as I did find 10 scrolls, a few 100 gold, and gain 1 1/2 levels for the Cleric helping keep me alive.

However, I just thought I'd ask if I'm doing something wrong. Hint sites suggest that one of three things happen when you right click a chest. 1 - It's empty, 2 - There are mobs in it, 3 - It just vanishes, and something falls on the floor to be picked up, which could be the Artifact.

Thus far I've had a fair amount of 1 and 2, but each time 3 happens, there is nothing on the floor. Am I doing something wrong ?

Ive spent so much time there since release .. still no shield, gave up now.
Just dont have the time to waste time these days.

Spend 5 days on that island before I got it.
First we zerged the entire island with 2 fg and I got credit but rolled too low for the shield.
Then I spend some time with my sorc hunting there (confuse on the sentinels and they wipe the entire spawn for you ).
Was quite easy then, seen some people run past the chest and opening the chests and running away, this is really stupid since then the entire island will be filled with aggro mobs and the chances you will find the shield then is alot lower.
Also heard the longer you camp some chests the more chance you have high level mobs (marble enforcers, Sentinels) are in the chests.

I don't think that is a stupid idea at all. I've done this quest solo (with a lvl 46 BD and a lvl 50 aug healer) both times I just ran from chest to chest without killing any mobs, died and released and went back. When the chests respawn don't open the same ones, go for the new that you haven't opened yet. I got the shield fairly easy both times and didn't waste more than 200g on it.

And one more thing, if the shield drop and you die before you were able to pick it up, the shield will be in the same chest again when you come back (at least it was for me).

The best tactic for treasure Island is paladin stands in middle to rezz while minstrel runs about opening chests, tbh though this ruins it for other people, it is why treasure island is a bad idea as it creates too much ill feeling between players.

Aten's shield drop is totally random - i dont see how anyone could do something wrong

For me, i spent 7 hours opening chests but to no avail so i logged off for the night. Logged on the next day and first chest i opened contained Aten's Shield

It's a little impolite. I spent 2 hours clearing one site, only to have someone do this to the ones I'd just cleared. Remember that the only way the mobs despawn is if someone clears them.

Impolite? It's not like I do it when other peeps are doing it ^^

I spent 3 minutes on the island before i got it. Was just my warrior and a friar guildie. I disbanded, and ran into the agro opening as many chests as possible. Died, rezzed, 2nd attempt, and it dropped, but i died lol. So a quick rezz and i ran in to pick it up. This was on camlann at 4am a few weeks ago.

I used a simple tactic, stealthing to a chest to opened it then run like hell, with sos up i survived it without i died most of the times. Opened around 50 chests before it drops, cost me a few hundred gold to buy con back, Yes a Masterpiece player crafted shield can be cheaper

Camped there for 7 nights, several hours each night and never got the shield.

Most chests spawned mobs or simply just disappeared with no mobs or drops, only drops I got was maybe 5-10 drops of sell loot.

Cant be bothered spending more time on that really...

Got it in the end.

Managed to strike a great deal with an Xp'er, who let me open the chests, then we shared the xp from teh mobs. Sped up the process no end.

Also kept things simple, as the only mobs left were the 'uber' ones which you can avoid, and the ones from the chests just opened.

Also found 13 scrolls in the process - including one for the shield. Bought the other two for 200 gold, far less than the junk drops sold back to merchants for.
