...someone with an alternative point of view on emissions gets an airing. If anyone watches this tonight and feels like sending me a torrent I´d be very grateful (not bumsex-grateful, but, maybe chaste-peck-on-the-cheek-grateful ;))

The last time he made a program about climate change, Channel 4 had to issue an apology for the gross inaccuracies and misrepresentation of interviewed peoples viewpoints.

I'm not expecting this one to be any different.

That (the C4 documentary) was an excellent documentary that expressed very well all the points that I've repeatedly tried to make on here in the past. I only wish I possessed their eloquence.

DaGaffer, try joining up at UKNova. If you can't get in, I'll keep an eye out for the torrent, they usually appear after a few days.

Yeah I enjoyed watching that doc. I have also had the view as was expressed there. Many really good points especially regarding the developing world like africa.

I might just have to get a copy of that to watch again sometime.

The Guardian and Independant don't like it. Well theres a surprise.

One wonders why they didn't attack Al Goron's ManBearPig film with quite so much venom.....

To be fair the Guardian is a quote from someone in the docu who's pretty pissed and the independent, at least the paper, has the alternatives to the graphs they dispute.

I saw an advert today that suggested keeping my tyres pumped up will cut CO2 emissions. I promptly stopped at a garage and lowered the PSI of my tyres. And you know what? This will not make a blind bit of difference. Unless we plug up the volcanoes and ban cows from farting the temperature's gonna go up no matter what, and the planet will revert to its natural state with no ice caps. Then in a couple of million years we'll have another Ice Age, and the ice caps will come back. The natural cycle will continue whether we're here or not, so can we please focus on something a bit more important, like ending poverty and famine or helping the Dutch stay dry when the water levels rise?

Global Warming is the biggest fabrication since The Holy Bible. It's quite tragic nearly as many people are buying into it.

The problem is, the volcanoes have been there spurting whatever and the animals have been farting, before us. We are adding to the amount of emissions and the argument is any increase is damaging to the equilibrium that makes the planet habitable.

Its an arguement that goes against the historical facts though - we have had far higher concentrations of CO2 (like hundreds of times the current totals) and the poles were still icy.

I think the current bunch of climatolagists are doing their young science a great disservice - in time they will be found out at which point their credibility will be entirely destroyed and their funding will collapse.

And yet... Channel 4 misquoted him and by doing so actually missed an opportunity. If you read what this guy says, what we should be worried about is how to deal with the consequences of rising tides or future mega-droughts; he still doesn't say all this is caused by humans. I firmly believe global warming is happening, I also firmly believe that CO2 emissions reduction policies are profoundly misguided because it leads people into the very dangerous belief that we can 'fix' the problem. We can't. All we can do is come up with strategies to prepare for the consequences of global warming, something governments are failing to do in anything but the most piecemeal of ways.

In the meantime, climate change will become a tool of political control - to tax the populations of the west, to condemn the populations of the developing world to eternal poverty. But hey, it doesn't matter; when all the people in Africa are dead, and we're under water because we didn't prepare for rising sea levels, we can go and live there instead; who knows, maybe that is the contingency plan...

I just don't get who we think we are trying to tell the Africans how to develop. Patronising *****. Even worse, many people think their current way of life should be preserved. Well maybe those who want to carry on dying of disease can do but the majority would swap lives with one of us in a heartbeat. Don't try to preserve poverty because you think it looks quaint.

Could someone post some links to things suggesting that developing African nations™ should use solar/wind and not coal etc?

I saw people suggesting how stupidly absurd it was, but I didn't see all of it. Did it actually show who was saying that stuff?

I don't anyone has said it as such. Its just scientists saying if we really wish to reduce C02 emissions then developing nations need to be involved too which means they have to use alternative power sources rather than traditional methods.

What the fuck does it matter if glowbal warming isnt caused by us - i still dont want to have billions of cars and millions of factories emitting poisons that i have to breath in every day.

1. Yes it is - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_monoxide_poisoning
2. Carbon dioxide isnt the only thing cars and industry releases - the enviromentalist movement isnt about limiting carbon dioxide emissions, thats only one of the goals, the overal goal is to give us a cleaner enviroment that is a nice place to live in. Personaly i dont give a shit about global warming or "saving the planet" as such - we cannot do anything to affect the planet in the long term and to think we can is pretty arrogant, the planet will survive us no doubt about that, but what i *am* concerned about is how we affect the enviroment for *ourselves*. Its pretty damn simple - i get sick when i go out into a smoggy stinking city enviroment, my eyes tear up and i have a hard time breathing - i feel great when i step out of a tent into (comparatively) clean air camping in the fells.

Carbon dioxide still isn't a posion like Carbon MONoxide is. If anyone dies of 'CO2 poisoning' it is usually because the CO2 has displaced the breatheable oxygen causing them to ashpyxiate.

Don't confuse carbon particles with CO2 with CO.

lmao, can't tell the difference between the two!

Oh and if you think the UK's cities are smoggy environments, you're very much mistaken. Just try visiting India, or Mexico, or even LA, and you'll see what smog really is.

I think he can tell the difference. He actually stated that carbon dioxide isn't the only thing that factories and power stations emit (i.e they also emit carbon monoxide [CO]). It might help to read his post in full before jumping down his throat.

I'm not sure that the CO emitted actually has any significant effect though.
