doesnt matter how close it comes, what matters is its path that it travels along. its not gonna fly past earth, stop and think "hmmz maybe i should smash into it LOL". its orbit can be tracked and calculated and the only way it could hit earth is if its on the same path or something hits it and changes its path.

With technology as it is today, its a piece of piss to knock an asteroid, even the size of the sun off course and away from smashing into earth.

The only way we will ever get hit now, is if its by an asteroid we didnt track and therefore didnt have the time to react.
