I'm kinda lucky. There's a huge multi-screen cinema near me. Tickets cost £4. My mate couldn't believe it. Bargain, he said. So then he says lets go see one in town. Bloody £15 in the West End of London !!

Then the drinks n stuff are outrageous. Even in my local a small bottle of water costs almost £2 !

Anyone feel a night out at the cinema is pretty pricey these days ?

Don't get me wrong, I choose to go cos I love the whole cinema experience and love movies anyway. And it must cost a bomb to run the multiplexes, pay for staff, and ofc the permissions for the movies themselves. But still...

Maybe I'm just getting old...

you pretty much summed it up there, its expensive to run a nice cinema, reallllll expensive. im more than willing to pay 20 quid per person (all in food tickets etc) for a trip out to the cinema. unless ofc the film sucks, but hey, thats another discussion.

What pisses me off is that Odeon recently took over my fav cinema and hired lots of monkeys to make people sit in the correct seat, i went to a show which had maybe 20 people in it and we all had to sit in the same row, like wtf!!!

Needless to say people moved anayway and just argued with the poor underpaid staff when they objected.

I wonder how much all the extra seat monkeys in employment affected the price.

I weet to see matrix 2 when i was in Oz, I piad £12, was in a cinema with only 12 people the seats were lazy boyz and we had waiter service. This country is way behind.

also the cinema itself doesnt make money from the shows, that goes to the movie ppl

the cinema makes moeny from food sales and other things like that. I used to work in a cinema was jokes, oh and staff get paid pennies too

In the 70's / 80s, local cinemas showed adverts for local businesses. Those who are old enough probably remember adverts for builders, Indian restaurants, and motels etc. That went straight into the cinemas coffers. These days I'm not even sure if they are allowed to do that stuff.

Give me an old-fashioned traditional flea-pit cinema once in a while.

Yeah Cinema's are taking the piss a bit with 15 quid prices.

A friend went on holiday to Mexico and spend almost every afternoon in the cinema because it was the only place with an airco, it was 1 dollar to get in, the seats were huge and there was a waiter to bring you drinks and snacks.

Costs about £6-8 to go to the cinema in Leeds, then another £5 for drink and popcorn. Go on orange wednesdays when I can, or go to the cheap monday/tuesday showings at the Odeon and take my own drink and popcorn :p

People wonder why piracy is so fucking common, Its a complete rip off and i'll openly admit id rather pay 5£ for a DVD and watch it on a wide screen at home than go and pay 25£ a shot at the cinemas

you're cheap :p

cinemas aint just about the film goddammit, albeit it IS better to watch a film on a MASSIVE screen, with the sound BOOMING around you, but its not just about that!

its about the service, your friends(presuming you have any), the atmosphere, the rest of the night out.

ITS SOCIALISING!!!!

the only thing thats genuinely expensive is the cost to get the movies to show. its hollywood or whatever thats asking for outrageous prices to let the cinemas show their movies. sure, rent and stuff is by no means *cheap* but compare to what they are forced to pay to get the rights to show the movies.......

Its not commentating when you go "so who is he? Is that the bad guy" as soon as someone walks on the screen - unless the person you are with wrote/directed or acted in the film - THEY DONT KNOW EITHER !!

Anyways...whatcha mean you gave em your mate - I had licked them and everything!!!

no, but when you go "and the bad guy enters stage left, ominously waving a large trout augmented with a laser beam"

jump around the cinema a little shouting "oush oush, die motherfucker die, AH HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAA"

then fall down infront of the screen cluching your chest saying quietly "mummy, mummy, im so sorry, i never meant it to be this waayyyy, ughhhh, ugh, ugh, argggggg......."

Local UCI turned Odean costs (for 2 people) £10-£11 (student/non-student) and then about £6.50 for 2 med drinks and a large popcorn... Is okay at allmost £20 a go, but then.. Some films arn't worth it, but they know you're going to spend the money.

(Saw LOTR.. £20 for 4 people for tickets, then like another £25 on food.. =<)
