Oh for goodness sake no-one should be expected to thank a company for doing proper company things. I suppose what I meant to say was is anyone going to at least acknowledge they're able to do it right this time?

And by "right" I mean "right" in the eyes of all those people who said such advertising was so lacking for DAoC. Trouble so many of the people quick to moan about everything conveniently forget about such things and move on to their next +1 whine.

I will when I believe it. I honestly bear no ill will towards GOA and I'm absolutely hyped for the game. At the same time I'm scared stiff because nothing in the past - or present - makes me believe we won't be disappointed by our European experience.

Running ads on MTV won't matter one damn bit if the actual end product isn't top notch.

Wonder if MTV is a good choice to run ads on. I mean, do you really want to play with people that watch -these- kinds of reality shows and stuff?! :eek7:

Finally some sanity.

I've always been baffled by the way the advertisements (or lack of) have been handled in the EU when it comes to daoc.

Requiel can give you the official response, but this is what I've seen him post (again, best to hear it from him rather than me).

Daoc was never meant for anyone except USA. GOA got the european contract and it was up to them to do the advertising. The game was advertised in France, Germany etc. But the UK was a hard market to 'crack'.

The reason UK got so 'little' coverage was due to 2 things;

1) mmorpg's were not heavily talked about so getting your game in a magazine was hard work. Now hold on before you start saying "yeah but the french and americans blah blah".

2) The reason UK got a little shafted was because there we no sites to advertise on. All the good sites people would visit for games were American. They had already been tapped up by Mythic's advertising group. France and Germany had all their websites available for advertising, but the general people in the UK primarily used American websites thus GOA could not use those sites (could hardly have EU versus US on the same website, would cause competition which would be bad for both).

I am not saying there are NO UK websites, but because of point 1) I dont think alot of the UK sites wanted to advertise mmorpg's.

This is something I have seen him touch on several times. He may correct me on some points, but I think this is the general way of things.

That sounds very strange on business side,Europe is pretty big afterall.

Yes but about 10 years ago or whenever daoc came out mmo's were no where as big as they are today. I dont know if daoc US came out before daoc EU, or if they released both at the same time?

Either way I think GOA offered them something they did not have...an option to provide a service to the europeans.
