So is anything actually happening for us in Europe, or are we the forgotten people?

WAR is Coming!

And so we must be ready...

Tomorrow the Mythic Account Center will begin accepting all Open Beta and Head Start Keys allowing all Pre-Order customers to register their accounts and prepare for the weeks ahead.

We'll provide instructions and let you know when it's open tomorrow, but we wanted to announce tonight that up to the first 50 thousand Standard Edition Open-Beta keys registered will be invited to the upcoming Preview Weekend in addition to all of our registered Collectors Edition Pre-Order customers!

While we haven't announced any dates yet be rest assured that the next few weeks are going to be action packed and this is your only way to get into the preview weekend if you missed out on the Collector's Edition.

Stay tuned tomorrow!

Hi all,

I've been floating around the boards this evening and I see there's a lot of misconception about what's happening today (Friday the 15th) and some additional concerns.

Firstly let me just get it out of the way:

Today is not the start of Open Beta nor Preview Weekend. You will have advanced notice to these dates and as of yet we have not announced them. The only thing occurring today is that later on we will be activating all Pre-Order (CE & SE) Open Beta and Head Start codes (hold onto all of your codes though!) This is the first step in preparations towards hosting a live environment and the pre-launch events ahead.

Concerning Preview Weekend:

All CE testers who have applied a code will be invited to preview weekend, regardless of computer specs or association. Please realize that this means there is no assurance that everyone invited can in fact run the game. In addition to CE all current closed beta participants will be participating in Preview Weekend and as an added bonus up to the first 50 thousand SE Open-Beta accounts registered on the Mythic Account Center will also be invited to join us for this stress test extravaganza!

Concerning CE Items and the Head Start EDITED FOR CLARIFICATION:

Any characters created during the head start will have access to the exclusive faces. However, they cannot change their face until the CE Product Key is entered.

The answer will be obvious once you see it in action, but for now let me try to explain. Players will be able to create and play their head start characters, however, during the headstart they will not have access to the in game bonuses provided with the collectors edition. Once a CE product code is associated with their account they will be able to use them post launch, this includes everything from the exclusive faces to the cloaks and everything included within the CE even on characters made during the head start.

What is this new "Mythic Account Center" and is it different from the Beta Center?

The Beta Center and Mythic Account Center are separate tools. In preparation for live we are phasing out the Beta Center. The new Mythic Account Center (current Dark Age subscribers are already familiar with it) will serve as your portal to all your Mythic subscriptions. If you have not done so already you do not need to apply a code to your Beta Center account, all invitations will be handled via the Account Center.

I hope this has helped to answer some of your questions, have a great night and stay tuned for more info. Exciting times ahead, we'll do our best to keep you in the know!

Isnt the above for US/Aus account holders only?

I know beta isnt live yet, but Id be more than happy to start downloading the main chunk of it.

With a 2MB connection, and bandwidth Nazis like Virgin Media, 15-20gb is going to take a good bit of time for people like myself.

Penumbra please get your facts straight before posting because more and more people are looking here and registering here to find out just this information. Everything you have posted relates to the United States and Mythic's Beta Center (check my American spelling) and has nothing to do with GOA's Beta Centre and customers in the EU.

There are no dates for Open Beta or headstart posted anywhere. In EU there are no dates for client download or preview weekends or anything.

GOA will post at www.war-europe.com when there is anything we need to know.

And whilst I'm on my soapbox one of the biggest criticisms of GOA in the past was how little they "apparently" advertised DAoC and that it got no mainstream big flashy TV adverts.

So now they have announced a series of ad time including teaser trailers and the full new cinematic trailer on none other that MTV. Anyone gonna thank them for that?

Was never one of my "biggest criticisms" about GOA.
The lack of actual, usable information is one of my biggest criticisms. The lack of a functional website on-par with the US one was another one.
And those are as valid today as they were then.

Others regarding server stability, why the website was down when servers were etc remain to be judged come live.

No, as far as we know, the EU download won't be there tomorrow for open beta.

US folks might be downloading it.

With all respect, really.
I am following the hype of the US for some time now and i can say a few things.
For one, given that some Mythic workers post directly to the boards of US sites, they are more informed and even get clarifications directly from the source.
Second, for apparant reasons the US have a way to express there hype which would make me nearly wish to be migrated to the US :) why cant we do that here? and Why i wont say "thank you GOA" ?
Simple answer to the "why.."
We were promised stuff by our side of the team, GOA, which i think from there POV was all ok so far...
but it is not enough to convince people GOA has changed abit from how they handled DAOC and how they dissapointed the playerbase of EU.
All the sloopy things they have done so far, by whoever mistake it worked out, the playerbase sees GOA as a headliner responsible for all the downs, compared to the US.
Not much to go all into hype mode for me, but then i simply see and wait, eventually WAR will come to #EU, just a shame how the Road to WAR is handled for the EU.

Personally I'm glad that GoA are getting some mainstream advertising for Warhammer, but frankly that just means there marketing department is doing their job, good for them, they are supplying a service and hope to make a great deal of money from it. Not sure why it deserves thanks though.

Finally some sanity.

I've always been baffled by the way the advertisements (or lack of) have been handled in the EU when it comes to daoc. I guess many ppl who play games are younger and not having jobs, and in some respects can be a bit naive when it comes to gaming companys.

One has to realize GOA (and others) aren't providing game services to be nice, but to make a heap of cash out of us, and the lack of advertisement is a serious hamper to that cash flow for them... That would be fine, i'm not too concerned as to how much money they're making, if it wouldn't have the unfortunate side effect of the quality of the product going down for the consumer if they don't have any subscribers. This, of course, leads to even poorer quality of product (as in: It's not fun to play if you're alone on the server) since the cancelling of subscriptions will increase more and more with dwindling populations, leading to the situation we have now.

Which brings me to another point, totally unrelated but still;

What are the 7 ppl logged in on Exc/Pry anctually DOING? Camping SoM?

Was never one of my "biggest criticisms" about GOA.

Same here. Ultimately it won't be big, flashy TV ads on MTV of all places (really, when did MTV and the Warhammer audience cross?), it'll be word of mouth. If the game is good and the service works, I'll recommend the game to all my friends. If it won't, I'll tell them to steer clear of the whole thing.

And the reason I'm complaining? I'm far too old to believe in either miracles or Santa Claus. I don't have much faith in shoddy service magically turning around the moment pounds start falling into the coffers, so I'm using the soapbox while there's still time. I hope that if myself and others let the powers that be know that we demand better, they'll deliver it.

If not... well, at least nobody can say we didn't try.

To make them aware of our gripe, we need to do something that we can bring to their attention. Something like a petition to say we want better service than what the past has shown us. It probably won't make a difference but sitting here moaning about is not going to get us anywhere.

Something like we want to see visible change to you Customer service! More information shared on what the company is currently doing like how Mythic run things now. Every so often they drop little teasers for their players to chew upon. But to make a petition effective it would need at least 100 people behind it if not more.

Alas though all of the things i am speaking of are purely speculative as it never will make a difference.

Well, seeing as this is pretty much the only place to reach any people at GOA through, I'd say this is our best bet. Iain and Magnus have to be aware of the concerns by now, so it's only a question of them passing the message along or maybe giving us something to quiet us.

And you're right, a petition really wouldn't help anything. They never have before.

I have been looking at the threads on Warhammer Alliance following the GOA Open Letter, and for me it begs a simple question - Why is this sort of forum and thread not available on the GOA web site war-europe, why do people have to guess which fan site to find GOA information on when it should be on their own site?

Why should we thank them for proper marketing?

They want to sell their product, good marketing is essential. This is where the advantage of being a premium EA brand shows.

The advantage for us is that we'll have more friends and foes to play with. :)

Oh yeah, and that people actually know what the hell you're talking about at birthday parties. :(
