Are schoolkids not motivated enough now-a-days.

There seems to a regularity, I've noticed, that teachers have a habit of setting a child a target grade (say a C grade) and just teaching them to that point than stopping.

It's almost as if the teacher doesn't want to motivate the kid further, and this in turn, causes the kid to adopt a mentality of not wanting to work harder.

I spoke to some people from high schools and I couldn't believe how little motivation and so on the teachers give. They teach them to a C-grade in many cases, then stop.

Surely, more motivation = better desire to get better grades = less people leaving school with inadequate grades.

Parents are ofcourse to blame, as they seem to have less and less interaction with their children.

Am I being too expectant here? Should we just work a children to their potential or should extend them over and beyond that potential?

Discuss!

Depends on the teacher and subject I think. Kids in the higher classes generally have a more mature approach, and get on a lot better with the teachers, prolly giving the teacher more motivation to actually help them out more. Where as the kids in the lower classes just tend to piss on, and are in them classes due to being little shits and either not doing work or just not showing up. Of course there is the ones that are just naturally unintelligent, who are stuck in the classes full of charvs, sympathise for them like.

I know at school I got loads of pushing and motivation in English and Maths/Stats by my teachers (possibly due to being in higher classes), telling us all the tips/hints and shit on getting an A/A* grade.

It all depends at what level you are studying at imo. I mean, when i was doing GCSE we had to take a foriegn language (french). I really couldnt be arsed with it, and nor could a lot of other people. At A-level however, we do what we want to study, and generally there's a huge jump in motivation.

It depends on the student. If they want to achieve something they will work for it, regardless of how shit their teacher/parents are.

Well kids today only learn their rights, not their responsibilities.

In school they should not be allowed to use their mobiles and other electrical gadgets.

not really sure where you have got your information from Bugz. is it a formal study?

I think teachers must be trained to teach the subject to a passing level for all those failing at the subject, and encourage the ones that can easily get higher to do so. Can you blame them really? Johnny over there, gets constant F's in history, its his teachers job to help him achieve a passing level and if he or she dosent give the contact or support needed they have failed in their role. If Johnnys interests lie in Resistant Materials, then it surely would be a huge drain on resources to teach him to a A class standard when he already hates the subject and its not what hes interested in.

dont know if that makes sense im fucking hungover like a bastard.
