Weighting up the pros, cons and delicate balance which a firm economy needs to survive, I can only come up with one conclusion. Personally I blame canada...

No, they bring benefits to the country, its a real shame that stupid daily mail readers can't see it.

Are there any other kind of Daily Mail readers? Although you should amend to stupid and ignorant.

I dunno if asking that is racist, but calling people poles might

Why? That is the preferred nomenclature. No lol there.

Anyone who has to qualify that their statement is in no way racist/sexist/religousist automatically fails.

Why? To avoid some forum turd going straight to the race card. The argument was put across without racial overtones but he put a caveat on it just in case. Don't be flippant unless it's funny or you have a point worth noting.

The slump in consumer spending has been too drastic to be blamed on one phenomena such as migrant workers. People have got stressed about their credit issues, and they rightly should and so are cutting back, and as pointed out by Lamp very often the influx of migrant workers is beneficial for a number of reasons:

1) Low wage-earning jobs are often taken by migrant workers (The BS people use such as 'they steal our jobs' is rubbish - if you wanted that job, there wouldn't be a vacancy to begin with, they could do it but are not satisfied to do it on that pay, which is fair enough) There is an argument to say that an employer once he/she sees the benefit of lower paid migrant workers they will push British (or whatever host nation's) workers out of jobs but that is another argument.

2) Cultural understanding - I have a lot of Polish, Latvian & Lithuanian people living on my road, they're great fun, really easy going and upstanding people and I know a lot more about a country I thought I knew but didn't really.

3) It has been proven in a number of countries (such as Mexicans in America & Turks in Germany) that second generation migrant workers are actually more productive than the host country-based populous in the same socio-economic grouping (which I admit, is normally the low-wager earning end).

I suppose all viewpoints are jaded by the people you meet - my Dad works with a lot of Polish people, some are great, some are aresholes. He's even been over to Krakow on a holiday with some of his workmates. Yet I know others who have had some very poor experience with eastern european workmates. Viewpoints as always, viewpoints.

Fuck you Zede, im not racist.

If I was, you think id work for an Indian guy for a year?

Or maybe working with a load of Poles for 8 months?(not in a strip club!)

It was a thing to get you people thinking, not for you to automatically play the PC bullshit card and call me racist.

Oh and if I am so racist, how come the government has introduced rules on bringing in migrant workers outside the EU?

Are the Labour party racist too?

Yawn.

You think after getting my head kicked in by a gang of Muslim lads, I would hate everything from thier culture?

No, because I know they were just arsehole who used racism(much like you are doing) to give them an excuse to kick off.

And you never answered my question Zede, are the government racist?

Piss off.

It was just an observation that I made.

I think Poles are hardworking people who know how to graft, and yes, they do pay thier way. But a lot of cash is leaving the country when we need people to spend it here.

Look at it this way then. Back in't day, when France and Britain were always fighting, the English didnt want to rich toffs to buy furnature from the French/Dutch etc. So they trained a load of carpeters up to make decent quality furnature, so that the pesky french didnt get the money to go to war with us.

Its kind of the same. Im not saying Poland will start a war with anyone, but my point was its probabaly better to keep money in this country before sending buckets of it elsewhere.

Firstly, attempting to divert the attention with a question about the "government" wont work. Im going to reply to you, and the comments you made before I first posted. This is FHOT, and your entering a political discussion - sadly ill prepared.

Where i live is full of Poles, 1000s of em. They are all young..and guess what ! spent their cash like other young people do - enjoying themselves, we have 2 polish nightclubs now. This outdated notion of large chunks of wages going back to Poland is bolox im afraid. Its not the 70s. Some, sure - the most, no.

What utter drivel are you going about with " furniture " ? Thats such a freaky and bizarre analogy to use im not quite sure what else to say.

If we had no available jobs - why are the poles here ? Because brits are to damn lazy and see the work as beneath them. You should be grateful they are filling the void left by us British - just like the Pakistanis, Indians & Caribbean did after WW2.( diff reasons ofc)

Its clear your comments are not "observations" but actually what you THINK.

Take a leaf out of Tactical Daves book, and prepare a little bit more before you turn on the shit tap.

This is a little harsh for someone who was asking an interesting and thought provoking question. It seems to me that Thadius is merely asking for peoples' opinions to augment his thoughts on the matter and you've gone straight for the jugular without expressing your viewpoint in a way which might "Show Him Your Light"?

I've been reading the responses to this, its a subject I haven't given any thought to before and I am finding it all interesting since I am just as naive and unworldly as Thadius. Its an education!

And fankoo <3 I was wondering if Zeede was you :)

Take a leaf out of Tactical Daves book, and prepare a little bit more before you turn on the shit tap.

I put the thing about furnature in to try and explain my thoughts on the matter. Granted it wasnt the best one, but it was the only thing I could think of at that time.

And they are observations, I was simply asking for, like Amanita says, other peoples thoughts on the matter.

Like I have said, I have worked with Poles before and practically all of them sent the majority of their wage home(which they have every right to do, dont get me wrong). I was simply putting forward a theory that may or may not be true that the highstreet downturn, ie, that the money going on things like ipods, tvs and all that shizzle isnt going on them as much.

Im proud to say I come from Beeston(apart from the whole terrorism thing, but thats 3 years old now), a multicultural part of Leeds. I am immensly proud of being able to "mingle" with all these different cultures, the vast majority of which are sound as a pound. Yes you get the arseholes from the Muslim end, but then, you get arseholes from the white side of the community.

If I have offended anyone, I am sorry. But I was only asking a thought provoking question that came to me when I was in the queue in Morrisons. Any of you that actually know me(which I doubt any of you do), I think about that much crap, most of which just pops into my head at random times. I then use the resoruces to then explore what I am thinking(for example, this "argument" as Zede puts it) I went and looked at what the BNP(omg Im racist!) had to say. I also looked into the 3 major parties on thier views on the economic downturn. Hell, I even asked one of my mums friends who is Luithanian on the subject.

So again, I am not racist, I had a random thought at a random time and I had the feeling that some of you might want to give thier opinions on this.

The original post did not come across to me in any way as racist.

In fact - Thadius' may simply be drawing on history, when the migrant worker situation was true.

Leave Thadius' alone - it was a stupid question but by no means racist.

wondering now. Blaming Polish people (or any other person who does not spent their money inside their own country, which then makes the economy xenofobic?) for a bad economy when its the stupid system created to get the government money by limiting peoples spending to their own national borders but joining a union of countries as EU with free trade and all... Seems to be kinda stupid, no?

No, what has affected the UK economy more is our insistence on giving lazy shits money for doing nothing, and then lending them money so they can buy shit they cannot afford in the first place.

Migrant workers fill the gaps left in the job market by all the shits we give benefits to that do not deserve them. The people that turn their nose up at basic jobs. The country would not work without migrant workers, and we would be worse off.

Everytime you buy an Ipod or whatever you're also shipping money right out of the country, like Poles sending money back to their family.
